The Australian counter-drone technology firm DroneShield has released its 2025 annual results, marking a significant corporate milestone: its first full-year profit. The company reported a near-quadrupling of revenue, successfully transitioning into profitability and triggering a positive market response. On the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX), DroneShield shares advanced more than 9 percent following the announcement.

Strategic Shift and Financial Performance

A strategic pivot is central to the company's improved financial health. DroneShield is evolving from a pure hardware vendor into a provider of integrated solutions with a growing software component. This move toward subscription-based licensing models is designed to generate more stable, recurring revenue compared to one-off equipment sales.

Financially, the year was transformative. Revenue surged 276 percent to 216.5 million AUD. After reporting losses in the prior period, the company posted a net profit after tax of 3.5 million AUD. Adjusted EBITDA climbed to 36.5 million AUD, supported by a gross margin of approximately 65 percent.

Record Order Book and Regional Demand

DroneShield's future revenue visibility is bolstered by a substantial pipeline. The company currently has over 300 potential projects in its sights, with an estimated total value of 2.3 billion AUD. The European market leads with 78 projects valued at 1.2 billion AUD, followed by the Asia-Pacific region at 481 million AUD. Notably, 18 individual projects are each valued above 30 million AUD, with the largest single opportunity estimated at 750 million AUD. For 2026, the firm already has 104 million AUD in secured revenue on its books.

Alongside the annual figures, DroneShield announced six new contracts worth a combined 21.7 million AUD. These include an order from a Western military customer, facilitated through a local distributor, for portable counter-drone systems, spare parts, and software licenses. A separate European contract worth 49.6 million AUD—the second-largest in the company's history—highlights robust demand on the continent. In total, DroneShield secured 15 contracts through European partners in 2025, with a combined value exceeding 86.5 million AUD.

Scaling Operations for Future Growth

To meet this escalating demand, DroneShield is aggressively expanding its manufacturing footprint. The company plans to increase its annual production capacity from 500 million AUD in 2025 to 2.4 billion AUD by the end of 2026. New production facilities are being established in Australia, the United States, and Europe.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying DroneShield?

In Sydney, manufacturing space was expanded by 3,000 square meters, with an additional 2,500 square meters dedicated to research and development. Headcount has grown from 250 to over 450 employees. To manage this global scaling effort, DroneShield appointed experienced executive Michael Powell as its Chief Operating Officer.

Geopolitical Tailwinds

The company operates in a favorable macro-environment. Global security concerns and rising defense budgets, particularly in Europe, are driving increased interest in Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems (C-UAS). A growing number of drone incidents in conflict zones like the Middle East further underscores the need for DroneShield's technology, which is applicable for both military use and the protection of critical infrastructure.

Initial deliveries from recent major contracts are scheduled for the first quarter of 2026, with corresponding payments expected in the second quarter. The key challenge for DroneShield's continued growth trajectory will be the speed at which it can ramp up its significantly expanded production capacity and convert its extensive project pipeline into booked revenue.
