Deutz AG enters a pivotal week with its share price riding high, up over 23% since the start of the year to close at €10.64. The engine manufacturer's resilience in the face of US import tariffs and its ongoing corporate transformation will be under intense scrutiny as two key May dates approach.

The company's first-quarter report for 2026, due on May 7, will provide the initial concrete look at its new operational structure. Since the beginning of the year, Deutz has been organized into five independent divisions: Defense, Energy, Engines, NewTech, and Service. Analysts will be keen to assess whether the Defense and Energy segments are already contributing measurable results. Warburg Research maintains a price target of €12.90, viewing the upcoming report as the first real test of the company's overhaul.

A significant factor underpinning investor confidence is Deutz's handling of US import tariffs. Since late February, a 15% duty has applied to engines shipped to the United States, a market that accounts for roughly 30,000 of Deutz's annual production of 160,000 units. Management's strategy has been clear: pass the costs on, rather than absorb them. This approach is viable because key competitors from the UK and Japan face the same tariff pressure, allowing Deutz to implement price increases without risking market share. Furthermore, only about half of the company's US sales revenue is subject to the duties.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Deutz AG?

The company's solid financial foundation supports its strategic moves. In 2025, revenue grew by 12.7% to €2.04 billion. Adjusted EBIT surged approximately 46% to €112.3 million, pushing the margin from 4.2% to 5.5%, and even reaching 6.8% in the final quarter. Parallel to this, the "Future Fit" cost-saving program is delivering results, with CFO Oliver Neu already booking over €25 million in savings. The goal is to reduce the cost base by more than €50 million compared to 2024 by the end of 2026.

Beyond the quarterly figures, shareholders will gather for the Annual General Meeting on May 13. They are set to vote on a proposed dividend of €0.18 per share, an increase from €0.17 the previous year. The ex-dividend date is May 14, with payment scheduled for May 18.

The structural transformation extends beyond the new divisional setup. The acquisition of Frerk Aggregatebau GmbH, contributing around €100 million in annual revenue, opens the door to the market for emergency power systems in data centers. Additionally, the stake in Tytan Technologies positions Deutz in the drone defense segment. The Defense division is targeted to eventually make up 10% of a goal to reach total sales of €4 billion. A new 800-kilowatt powerpack for military heavy-duty vehicles is slated for release this summer.

Management's medium-term ambitions are clear: revenue is projected to grow to approximately €3.3 billion by 2028, accompanied by an adjusted EBIT margin of 8.5%. For the full year 2026, the company is targeting revenue between €2.3 and €2.5 billion with an adjusted EBIT margin of 6.5% to 8.0%. The upcoming quarterly report will offer the first indication of whether Deutz is on track to meet these goals. The stock, while strong, still has room to climb, sitting about 15% below its 52-week high of €12.46.
