The quantum computing company has become a founding member of the newly established Southeastern Quantum Collaborative (SQC), signaling a concerted push toward practical deployment of its technology. This move aligns D-Wave with significant industry and academic players, including IBM and Davidson Technologies.

A Consortium for Applied Quantum Technology

The company announced its participation in the consortium yesterday. The group's stated mission is to develop the southeastern United States into a hub for quantum advancement. Other founding members alongside D-Wave are IBM, defense contractor Davidson Technologies, and the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

Central to the alliance’s operational focus is leveraging the region's existing defense infrastructure. The primary objective is to accelerate the transition of scientific research into deployable technology for military applications. This direction is a logical step, given that partner Davidson Technologies already operates a D-Wave "Advantage2" quantum system at its Huntsville headquarters. James Lackey, Senior Vice President at Davidson, underscored the intent to rapidly convert quantum capabilities into operational advantages for defense purposes.
