Circus SE: A 17% Rally Precedes a Pivotal Commercial Test

09.04.2026 - 00:55:07 | boerse-global.de

Circus SE stock surges 17% despite huge losses. Its recovery hinges on converting €1.6B+ in robot pre-orders, with a key update due April 16. The firm uses a mini-bond for funding.

Shares in robotics firm Circus SE surged by nearly 17% in a single session, a stark contrast to a broader market under pressure. This sharp rebound follows a prolonged downtrend since November 2025, with the stock recently crossing above its 20-day moving average. Despite the rally, the equity remains approximately 66% below its 52-week high of €22.80, highlighting the fragile nature of its recovery.

The company’s financial reality is stark. For the 2025 fiscal year, Circus generated a mere €0.25 million in revenue, a drop of over 60% year-on-year, while its operating loss widened to almost €15 million. This stands in dramatic opposition to management’s ambitious forecast for 2026, which projects revenue between €44 million and €55 million.

Bridging this enormous gap depends entirely on converting a pipeline of interest into firm contracts. The company’s flagship CA-1 autonomous kitchen robot has a backlog of 500 firm orders from roughly 40 customers. Furthermore, its pipeline includes over 8,000 pre-orders representing a theoretical potential exceeding €1.6 billion. However, most of these projects are currently in pilot phases or based on letters of intent rather than binding delivery agreements.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Circus?

Several high-profile pilot programs are underway. The German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr), retail giant REWE, and Mercedes-Benz Gastronomie are all testing the system. A specific REWE pilot in Düsseldorf is already preparing meals for end customers, while Mercedes-Benz plans to deploy the robot in its Sindelfingen factory canteen starting summer 2026. Notably, REWE will not decide on expanding or terminating the collaboration until after its eight-month test phase concludes, which could be in the summer or fall.

To finance its expansion without diluting existing shareholders, Circus took an unconventional route in March 2026. In partnership with Finexity AG, it launched a mini-bond called "Circus Robotics I." The structure involves a special purpose vehicle purchasing six robots and leasing them back to Circus via a sale-and-leaseback arrangement. The bond, available from €500, offers an annual interest rate between 6.0% and 10.0%, with 20% of the nominal amount amortized each year. This model could eventually evolve into a financing program in the eight-figure range.

The market environment may be favorable for automated solutions. In 2025, over 2,900 hospitality businesses in Germany filed for insolvency, a 30% increase from the previous year, driven by cost pressures and weaker consumer spending. Series production of the CA-1 is handled by manufacturing partner Celestica.

All eyes are now on April 16th, when Circus is scheduled to present concrete numbers on the conversion rate of its pre-order pipeline. This update will provide the first tangible evidence of whether the company can transition from pilot projects to commercial scale. Success could validate recent insider share purchases as a leading indicator. A lack of demonstrable progress, however, would widen the chasm between management optimism and investor expectations, regardless of the day's share price advance.
