Chinese automotive giant BYD is on the verge of launching one of the most ambitious infrastructure initiatives ever undertaken by a carmaker in Europe. This strategic move, announced just ahead of the company's annual results scheduled for March 26, underscores its ambition to be more than just a vehicle seller on the continent.

Financial Performance Under Scrutiny

This infrastructure push comes at a financially sensitive moment for the company. Market analysts are forecasting fourth-quarter 2025 revenue of 245.52 billion CNY, representing a year-on-year decline of 10.67%. Earnings per share are also projected to have fallen to 1.22 CNY, a drop of 29.07%. These figures highlight a softening domestic market, even as BYD's international export volumes continue to grow. The automaker has set an annual export target of 1.3 million vehicles for the full year.

Investor attention will be sharply focused on margin development when the figures are released. A key question is whether export revenues and the cost advantages derived from BYD's in-house battery production can offset the substantial capital expenditures required for new overseas manufacturing plants. Furthermore, the company's supervisory board is set to deliberate on a potential final dividend on March 27, the day after the earnings announcement.

Ultra-Fast Charging Technology Debuts

Central to BYD's European strategy is the introduction of its high-power charging technology. The premium Denza brand will make its European debut with the Z9GT model at the Palais Garnier in Paris on April 8, 2026. This vehicle will feature what BYD terms "Flash-Charging" capability.

The system, powered by a second-generation Blade Battery, is reported to charge from 10% to 97% state of charge in just nine minutes. Even under extreme cold conditions of -30 degrees Celsius, a charge from 20% to 97% takes only three minutes longer. The accompanying charging stations are designed to deliver up to 1,500 kW simultaneously across two cables—more than triple the output of Europe's current fastest 350-400 kW public chargers.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying BYD?

BYD has outlined plans to establish a network of over 3,000 ultra-fast charging stations across Europe by the end of 2026, with initial locations already presented during a showcase event in Poland.

Technical and Strategic Considerations

A technical caveat exists regarding this promised performance. While the Chinese connector can handle the full 1,500 kW, it remains uncertain whether the CCS2 standard used in Europe can support the same power level. If the maximum charging rate is not achievable via CCS2, the advertised five-minute charge for a 10% to 70% battery boost may take longer in real-world use.

This charging infrastructure rollout is intricately linked to BYD's broader manufacturing footprint. The network expansion will prioritize markets where the company already has production facilities. This includes its first European passenger car factory in Szeged, Hungary, which is slated to have an annual production capacity exceeding 100,000 vehicles by 2026. Other key manufacturing locations guiding the charging network rollout are Thailand and Brazil.
