Broadcom's Valuation Crossroads: AI Deals and Downgrade Collide

Broadcom finds itself at a pivotal moment, caught between the undeniable momentum of its artificial intelligence business and growing questions over its stock price. The semiconductor giant’s shares closed at 297.75 EUR on Wednesday, a level that has prompted a rare analyst downgrade even as the company announces blockbuster partnerships and a significant leadership change.

The cautionary note came from Seaport Research Partners, which lowered its rating on Broadcom from "Buy" to "Neutral." Analyst Jay Goldberg pointed to the stock's rich valuation following a recent rally and highlighted a broader industry concern: chipmakers are increasingly required to front the capital for building massive AI data centers for their clients. He specifically referenced Broadcom's involvement in providing 3.5 gigawatts of computing capacity for AI developer Anthropic. The stock's technical indicators reflect this overheated sentiment, with its Relative Strength Index (RSI) reaching a high of 85.6, deep into overbought territory.

This skepticism stands in stark contrast to the fundamental powerhouse Broadcom is building. The company has cemented a long-term agreement with Alphabet's Google, committing to supply custom Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) and networking hardware through 2031. Concurrently, it is expanding its collaboration with Anthropic, with plans to supply vast computing resources starting in 2027. The financial impact is already materializing; AI-driven semiconductor revenue doubled year-over-year to $8.4 billion in the first fiscal quarter of 2026.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Broadcom?

Wall Street analysts are projecting this growth to accelerate dramatically. Mizuho forecasts that the Anthropic deal alone could generate $21 billion in AI revenue for Broadcom this year, potentially rising to $42 billion by 2027. Looking further ahead, Citi sees the company's total revenue reaching over $130 billion in the medium term, significantly surpassing a previous $100 billion target. For the immediate future, Broadcom's own guidance calls for total second-quarter revenue of approximately $22 billion, with $10.7 billion expected from the AI segment.

Beyond silicon, Broadcom is aggressively expanding its enterprise software portfolio. The company recently introduced "Arcot Smart Ruleset," a new machine learning-based tool for fraud prevention in financial transactions. This system replaces static, manual rules with adaptive AI, a technology already demonstrated by financial services provider Velera, which prevented over $2 million in additional fraud losses using the solution in the past six months.

A major management shift underscores the deepening ties with key partners. On June 12, 2026, Amie Thuener will assume the role of Chief Financial Officer, succeeding Kirsten M. Spears, who is retiring after twelve years. Thuener joins from Alphabet, marking the first CFO change in over a decade and aligning leadership more closely with one of Broadcom's most strategic customers.

The coming quarters will be critical. Broadcom must now deliver on its ambitious revenue targets to justify its current market valuation. The company is betting that its dual engine of massive AI infrastructure deals and a growing software business will provide the necessary fuel, even as some investors begin to watch the gauges for signs of overheating.
