Shares of Electro Optic Systems Holdings (EOS) surged following the announcement of a substantial conditional contract from South Korea. The Australian defense technology group has secured a deal worth approximately AUD 120 million (USD 80 million) for the supply of a high-energy laser weapon system, sending its stock to an intraday high of AUD 5.96.

The agreement centers on the production and delivery of a 100-kilowatt high-energy laser weapon system to the Republic of Korea. Beyond the hardware itself, the contract’s scope includes establishing a joint venture to address the Korean market and licensing relevant patents to the new partnership. This marks the second export order for this class of laser system, following a prior agreement with a customer in Western Europe.

Revenue from this contract is anticipated to be recognized primarily in the 2026 and 2027 financial years, pending the satisfaction of standard conditions and necessary regulatory approvals.

This move represents a strategic expansion into the Asian defense sector for EOS. The formation of a joint venture is designed to secure a long-term position within South Korea's defense market, potentially unlocking further regional opportunities beyond this initial contract.
