The exploration company Apex Critical Metals has initiated a pivotal drilling campaign at its wholly-owned Rift rare earth element project in Nebraska. This marks the start of a critical operational phase aimed at verifying and potentially expanding historical mineralization at the site.

Following the completion of site preparation and the construction of drill pads, the first drill rig has now been mobilized to the project. A second rig is scheduled to follow. The Phase I program is designed to encompass approximately 8,000 meters of drilling across 10 to 15 holes. The primary objective is to test a historical rare earth mineralization trend along an 850-meter strike length.

This swift operational start was facilitated by efficient permitting. Regulatory authorities in Nebraska granted the necessary exploration license on January 5, 2026. Shortly thereafter, on January 12, Apex formally contracted the drilling services firm Boart Longyear. The company anticipates receiving the first assay results from this campaign in either the first or second quarter of 2026.

Broader Exploration Portfolio and Funding

The Rift project is situated within Nebraska's Elk Creek Carbonatite Complex, a geological formation recognized for its potential to host critical minerals. Rare earth elements are essential components for electric vehicles, wind turbines, and defense technologies, with current geopolitical supply chain concerns driving interest in developing domestic sources.

Concurrently, Apex has reported progress across its Canadian exploration assets. In late December 2025, the company released assay results from its Cap project in British Columbia, which indicated an expanded niobium zone. This was preceded by the mid-December discovery of a mineralized carbonatite at the Lac Le Moyne project in Québec. To fund these corporate and exploration activities, Apex secured $10 million through a private placement finalized in late October 2025.

The coming months are set to determine the success of the Nebraska drilling initiative. For Apex Critical Metals, confirming the historical data represents a significant potential value catalyst for the Rift project.
