The investment case for ASML Holding NV is gaining momentum as the Dutch semiconductor equipment giant approaches a pivotal quarterly earnings report. Scheduled for January 28, the fourth-quarter results are highly anticipated, with several major financial institutions recently upgrading their price targets for the stock. This bullish sentiment is further bolstered by substantial capital expenditure plans announced by its largest client, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC).

A powerful vote of confidence originates from ASML's most significant client. TSMC has revealed capital expenditure plans for 2026 ranging between $52 billion and $56 billion. This figure represents an increase of approximately 32% compared to the prior year.

These funds are earmarked for advanced manufacturing facilities where ASML's extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography systems, for which it holds a monopoly, are essential. TSMC has confirmed that its 2nm production capacity for 2026 is already fully booked by major clients including Apple and NVIDIA. In response to this demand, Morgan Stanley forecasts double-digit revenue growth for ASML in the current year.

Financial Institutions Raise Price Targets

In the days leading up to the earnings release, multiple analysts have revised their valuations upward.

Berenberg Bank lifted its price target on Friday from €1,200 to €1,300, reiterating its Buy recommendation. Analyst Tammy Qiu cited solid investment trends within the semiconductor sector and emphasized that Chinese competitors continue to lag significantly in technological capability.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying ASML?

UBS maintains its bullish stance, with analyst Francois-Xavier Bouvignies confirming a €1,400 price target and a Buy rating. His analysis acknowledges that altered DRAM chip architecture may slightly reduce lithography intensity. However, he expects the introduction of High-NA EUV systems for logic chips to more than compensate for this shift.

Morgan Stanley has also elevated ASML to a "Top Pick" status, raising its price target to €1,400.

Market Focus for the January 28 Report

Investors will be scrutinizing several specific metrics in the upcoming report:

  • Q4 Order Intake: Expectations are set between €8 billion and €9 billion.
  • 2026 Revenue Guidance: Confirmation of the previous forecast of €36.5 billion to €38 billion.
  • High-NA EUV Systems: Details on the delivery of the TWINSCAN EXE:5200B model, which carries a unit price of around €350 million.

While the stock trades at a forward P/E ratio of approximately 56.8—indicating a premium valuation—analysts argue that ASML's monopoly in EUV technology and the structural growth driven by AI chip production justify the multiple.

Institutional investor activity supports this optimism. For instance, Naples Global Advisors LLC increased its stake in ASML by 51.2% during the third quarter. The confluence of rising analyst targets and concrete investment plans from key customers establishes a solid foundation for the company's imminent financial update.
