Allianz SE is quietly expanding its global footprint while simultaneously accelerating capital returns to its shareholders. The German insurance giant recently commenced operations in India through its new entity, Jio Reinsurance Limited, a strategic move that opens a significant long-term growth avenue. This development coincides with a flurry of shareholder-friendly actions, including an active buyback and a substantial dividend increase, painting a picture of a company balancing expansion with robust capital management.

The share price, currently hovering around EUR 387, sits just below a key technical resistance zone between EUR 386 and EUR 388. A decisive break above this level could see the stock retest its January and 52-week high of EUR 392.50, with the psychologically important EUR 400 mark looming beyond. The technical setup shows modest strength, with the share price trading roughly 5.8% above its 200-day moving average. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) near 46 indicates neither overbought nor oversold conditions, suggesting a neutral to slightly constructive technical picture.

Investor attention is now sharply focused on the upcoming Annual General Meeting in Munich on May 7. The board will propose a dividend of EUR 17.10 per share, marking an 11% increase from the previous year's EUR 15.40 payout. The ex-dividend date is set for May 8, with the payment to follow on May 12. This increase is complemented by an ongoing share repurchase program. Between April 7 and 10, Allianz acquired an additional 101,388 of its own shares, bringing the total since the program's launch on March 13 to approximately 1.14 million shares. The program, which runs until the end of 2026 with a total volume of up to EUR 2.5 billion, will see all repurchased shares cancelled, thereby boosting earnings per share for remaining stockholders.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Allianz?

This dual approach of rising dividends and share buybacks underscores the company's strong financial health and a clear management priority for shareholder returns. However, the broader operating environment presents headwinds. The latest Allianz Trade Global Survey 2026, based on responses from about 6,000 companies across 13 countries, highlights rising tariffs, weaker demand, and volatile energy costs as major burdens for global exporters. Escalating tensions in the Middle East and the US-Iran trade conflict further cloud the outlook. For Allianz Trade, these findings are more than research; they directly influence the risk profile of its credit and industrial insurance division and determine necessary capital reserves for potential defaults.

Despite these macroeconomic concerns, analyst sentiment remains favorable. Berenberg maintains a buy rating with a price target of EUR 504, with analyst Michael Huttner citing pension reform as a structural growth driver. The consensus price target stands near EUR 393, slightly above the current trading level. The company's operational target for 2026 is an operating profit of EUR 17.4 billion, supported by a comfortable solvency ratio of 218%. Trading at a forward price-to-earnings ratio of approximately 12.4, Allianz shares are considered moderately valued within the sector—neither a bargain nor excessively priced.

The next significant catalyst will be the quarterly figures in May, which will reveal whether the operational momentum from the start of the year has been sustained. For now, Allianz is navigating a path defined by strategic growth initiatives like its Indian venture and a committed, tangible return of capital to its investors.
