Investors in Airports of Thailand PCL (AOT) are weighing near-term operational turbulence against a significant future revenue boost, following a series of flight disruptions. The company's stock came under pressure as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East impacted its flight schedules.

Quarterly Results and Upcoming Report Provide Context

AOT recently reported a net profit of 4.65 billion baht (approximately USD 148 million) for its first fiscal quarter, covering October through December 2025. Market attention is now turning to the potential impact of recent events on future earnings. The next quarterly report, scheduled for release on May 7, 2026, is expected to provide crucial data on the financial effect of the recent disruptions and updated passenger traffic figures. The recent sell-off appears driven by investor concerns that profit forecasts may need to be revised downward.

Operational Disruptions Hit Key Hubs

Between late February and early March, a total of 134 flights experienced cancellations or schedule adjustments. The company's key international gateways were most affected: Suvarnabhumi Airport recorded 59 cancellations, while Phuket saw 36. According to AOT President Paweena Jariyathitipong, the changes primarily involved routes to the Middle East and related transit connections.

Despite these adjustments, all six of AOT's airports remained fully operational under heightened security protocols. The company stated that the majority of affected travelers were successfully rebooked onto alternative flights.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Airports of Thailand PCL?

Substantial Fee Hike Scheduled for 2026

Looking beyond current operational challenges, AOT has laid out a major plan to bolster its income. Effective June 20, 2026, the passenger service charge for international flights across all six airports will rise from 730 baht to 1,120 baht. This 53 percent increase is intended to fund further airport infrastructure expansion and modernization projects.

A key question for analysts is whether this substantial revenue enhancement will be sufficient to offset uncertainties surrounding tourist arrival numbers and potential increases in airline fuel costs. The market's reaction in the coming months will likely hinge on the balance between these new earnings streams and the ongoing operational risks facing the aviation sector.
