TD outlines potential share buyback
On September 30, 2026, TD Bank Group announced its intention to commence a new share buyback program of up to C$10 billion, subject to approval from the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions Canada. The program would cover no more than 61 million common shares and is intended to be completed by July 2027, according to the Canada Newswire release.
The release said the new program would begin under TD’s existing Toronto Stock Exchange normal course issuer bid. TD intends to launch a new TSX bid afterward, subject to TSX approval, and may also repurchase shares on the New York Stock Exchange or other designated markets in Canada and the United States. Purchased shares would be canceled, the TD Investor Relations release said.
TD Bank Group said the proposed buyback could represent up to 3.74 percent of its 1,633,130,726 common shares outstanding as of August 31, 2026. The bank also said it had completed C$7 billion of repurchases, equal to 47.2 million shares, on September 25, 2026, under its existing bid, according to the Canada Newswire release.
