Swiss Re highlights changing risk landscape
In a September 7, 2026 release, Swiss Re said the reinsurance market was entering the Rendez-Vous de Septembre and the upcoming renewal season against a backdrop of increasingly interconnected and rapidly changing risks.
Swiss Re said insured natural catastrophe losses continue to grow by 5 to 7 percent annually, driven by rising exposures, asset values and changing hazard patterns. Its modeling indicated that insured losses could reach around USD 320 billion in a 2026 peak-loss scenario, according to the release.
The company also pointed to growing data-center risks, geopolitical uncertainty and elevated commercial liability losses. Swiss Re said clients need risk expertise, data and solutions in addition to reinsurance capacity as exposures become more complex.
