Earlier company announcement

In a September 25, 2026 release, ArcelorMittal said it had advised the Government of Ukraine that it could not safely and sustainably restart operations at its Ukrainian subsidiary, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih. The company said the plant had been targeted by four missile strikes over five weeks, with the latest occurring on September 21.

The release said the attacks had caused fatalities, injuries and extensive damage to production facilities. It reported five deaths and 17 injured employees, including one employee who remained in critical condition at the time of the announcement. ArcelorMittal said it was discussing the plant’s future with the Ukrainian government and would focus on preserving infrastructure so that options to restart production could remain available.

Expected accounting charge

ArcelorMittal also said it had provided more than US$700 million in financial support to ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih since the start of the war. The company expected to record a non-cash impairment charge of approximately US$1 billion, principally reflecting impairment of property, plant and equipment at the Ukrainian operation, according to the company release.
