XRP changed hands at 1.48 USD today, down 5.8% over the session, after the token failed to clear a stubborn band of resistance and reversed lower. The pullback marks a pause following a brisk run-up, and it arrives just as the network's validators prepare to decide on a far-reaching technical expansion.

A Vote on Native Credit

At the center of that expansion sits a proposal to bring lending directly onto the ledger. Validators are currently deliberating the introduction of native credit functions, with draft specifications XLS-65 covering custody structures and XLS-66 setting out standardized lending protocols designed to enable fixed maturities on-chain.

Under the design, credit assessments would take place off-chain, while settlement and interest payments would flow through the ledger itself. Turning the feature on requires approval from more than 80% of trusted validators sustained across two consecutive weeks.

The lending framework is flanked by other network modifications. A planned expansion of rights management would let issuers separate compliance duties from operational account permissions, while activation of bundled transaction flows is also pending, contingent on the validator set holding the necessary quorum.

Ripple Hardens the Network With AI

Ripple, meanwhile, is upgrading the technological backbone of the XRP Ledger. The company deployed an AI-driven security review system yesterday, an automated fault-detection effort meant to harden the network before new features for institutional participants go live.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying XRP?

That hardening comes against a backdrop of widening payment use cases. On September 17, Ripple linked the token to payment provider Stripe's system for autonomous AI-agent payments, allowing XRP to be used in settings where software programs, rather than human users, act as buyers. The integration targets atomic settlement, in which multiple transactions are bundled so they either execute together or fail together.

Activation of that batch function is targeted for September 29 at 14:06 UTC, provided the required quorum of 80% of validators holds for 14 consecutive days. Most recently, 30 of 35 validators signaled their support.

Washington Setback Meets Steady ETF Demand

On the regulatory front, the market is still digesting a blow from US politics. The Senate blocked a vote on the CLARITY Act on September 15 by a tally of 49 to 50, with the bill falling short of the 60-vote threshold amid disputes over ethics rules governing officeholders' crypto holdings. Ripple responded by publishing a post titled "The Road to Clarity Ends (for now)."

Separately, new remarks out of Washington offered some regulatory clarity. Uyeda justified a procedural withdrawal on the grounds that the agency had protected its credibility in court, arguing that defending old positions would have contradicted a planned shift in direction. Regulators, in that view, should not advance legal interpretations they intend to abandon as part of a realignment.

That regulatory relief is feeding into the ecosystem's technical build-out, where the gradual opening of the network to traditional financial services takes center stage. The confidence of institutional partners hinges heavily on binding rules and stable protocols.

Whales Accumulate at Key Levels

Despite the recent consolidation, the network has seen substantial repositioning. On-chain data shows that large holdings have changed hands around this price level in the past, with sellers locking in short-term gains there. Only a sustained breakout above that zone would open the way for a broader trend continuation.

The retreat gives the market a breather after its rapid advance. Beyond the interest-rate environment, the outcome of the upcoming protocol votes is likely to be the decisive factor for where the price heads next.
