XRP's Split Screen: A Fund-Flow Streak Snaps as Validators Weigh a Security Patch
Published on 10/18/2026 at 06:11 | Editorial boerse-global.deTwo unrelated developments are shaping the XRP story this week, and neither one settles the question investors keep asking. On one side, the run of steady money into US spot XRP ETFs has stalled. On the other, the XRP Ledger is closing in on a bug fix that carries a firm date but a conditional trigger.
Start with the flows. According to Farside Investors, the 13-week streak of positive net inflows into US spot XRP ETFs came to an end in the latest trading week, with the weekly reading landing at zero or below. That breaks a stretch that had delivered $11.31 million in net inflows in the week through October 9. Cumulative net inflows still stood at roughly $1.8 billion as of Friday.
The break is narrower than the headline suggests. Friday's net outflow of $2.47 million came entirely from XRPC, the fund run by Canary Capital. Every other listed product logged no net flow that day — no offsetting subscriptions, but no withdrawals either. The damage was concentrated rather than broad, which limits what the number says about the wider ETF complex even as it confirms the negative daily print.
Price action has not helped the mood. XRP has shed 7.7% over the past seven days, so the softer fund demand and the weaker tape are arriving together. Neither source of pressure can be pinned as the cause of the other.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying XRP?
What happens over the next two to four weekly reports will carry more weight than the single break. Renewed subscriptions would point to a pause. Several weeks of outflows or flat readings would suggest something more durable. The distinction matters: missing incremental demand is not the same signal as sustained capital flight, and one interrupted stretch does not confirm a long-term change in direction. Watch whether withdrawals spread to other funds and repeat.
A Fix With a Date, Credit With a Question Mark
On the network side, the clean-up change known as fixCleanup3_4_0 is slated for activation on October 23, provided validator support holds. The patch addresses a flaw in the PaymentBurn authorization that, under certain conditions, could let the function mint tokens instead of destroying them — a correction to how a core network function executes, not a cosmetic tweak.
Support currently sits at 26 of 32 voting validators, or 81.25%. That clears the 80% threshold, but a majority alone does not lock in the date. Backing must stay above the line continuously through the required window; any dip to 80% or below restarts the two-week countdown. Activation is targeted for around 09:34 UTC. Investors should treat October 23 as a plan, not a certainty, with continued validator backing as the next checkpoint.
The two lending amendments are a different story. Their support has hovered near 53% in recent days, and SingleAssetVault likewise falls short of the supermajority required. None of the three changes has an activation date, so progress on the security fix should not be read as a green light for credit features.
Antony Welfare, a former Ripple adviser, added a caveat on a Thursday podcast: institutional use of the XRP Ledger does not guarantee a higher XRP price. A separate proposal would tie Ripple's payment flows to the still-in-development lending features, potentially putting XRP into financing pools for payment customers — a possible use, not a live mechanism. Approval and actual implementation remain the tests.

The same separation applies to the Ripple-DriveWealth tie-up reported today. The plan calls for RLUSD settlement on the XRP Ledger, starting in Europe with an eye toward the US. Stablecoins would fund customer collateral accounts and convert to cash in near real time. Per media reports, the arrangement requires no XRP purchase: RLUSD carries the settlement value, and the ledger supplies the rails.
Three different yardsticks, then. The security upgrade has a concrete but conditional date. The credit features need more validator support first. Commercial integrations have to be judged on what role XRP actually plays — and for now, the fund-flow streak is broken, not reversed.
