XRP's Real Test: From Technical Fit to Repeatable Institutional Demand

XRP's price stood at 1.31 USD, but the more telling signal this week came from the plumbing rather than the tape. Exchange-linked wallets tracked across 24 trading venues absorbed a net 83.94 million XRP between Tuesday and Thursday, lifting their combined holdings to 22.06 billion tokens. That snapshot covers the same 699 exchange-associated wallets each time, so it measures shifts within a fixed set of addresses — not the entire universe of XRP held on exchanges. Transfers between tracked and untracked addresses can skew the reading, which means a rising balance is a monitoring flag, not proof that a wave of selling is about to hit the market.

ETF Data Offers No Clear Counterweight

Demand-side evidence is equally murky. US spot XRP ETF figures for Thursday showed an estimated net outflow of 105,000 dollars, according to tracking services. Friday's numbers, published yesterday, were still incomplete — only two of five funds had reported. Estimates vary by methodology and by which funds are counted, so the recent flows point to subdued appetite rather than a decisive, large-scale ETF-driven push. Put the two datasets side by side and the picture of capital moving around XRP stays ambiguous.

A Wallet Integration Widens the On-Ramp

On the utility front, there is something concrete. Ripple and Privy, a company owned by Stripe, agreed on Wednesday to integrate the XRP Ledger into Privy's developer platform. Applications will be able to create and manage wallets and authorize transactions involving XRP, RLUSD and other assets on the ledger. Media reports suggest the integration could also support payments executed by AI agents, extending XRP's technical reach inside embedded applications. A possible use case, however, is not the same as demand that has already materialized.

Evernorth's 473 Million Tokens Face an Operational Hurdle

The sharper test sits with Evernorth, which announced partnerships on Wednesday with Ripple, Kraken, Coinbase and BitGo. The company intends to deploy roughly 473 million XRP institutionally, with first activities slated for the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to required approvals and further conditions. Lending and liquidity provision are among the planned functions, aimed at raising Evernorth's XRP holdings per outstanding share. What the individual partners will contribute and what returns are expected was not disclosed, and potential credit markets on the XRP Ledger have yet to be confirmed as operational.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying XRP?

The strategy could put XRP to more productive use, but it carries borrower, liquidity, counterparty and technology risks. For investors, actual activity and regular reporting will say more than hypothetical yield models. A stock-market listing for Evernorth generates visibility; it does not demonstrate network usage.

Technical Fitness Is Not the Same as Adoption

Anthony Welfare, a former Ripple CBDC adviser, framed the challenge on the AllinCrypto podcast today: institutional adoption is the decisive proving ground for the XRP Ledger. The network can support banks, in his view, but whether that translates into lasting additional XRP demand depends on liquidity, custody, compliance and connections to other systems. Institutions may test the ledger and still choose rival networks, and more on-chain activity guarantees neither higher XRP demand nor a rising price. What counts for holders is not the tally of new partnerships but how they are actually implemented.

Welfare considers the XRP Ledger technically suited to large-scale bank payments, cross-border transfers and asset tokenization. He expects private blockchains to grow first, with links to public networks following later — and he does not infer an automatic migration of institutional business onto the XRP Ledger from that.

Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse and CTO David Schwartz also put practical utility in the foreground today. Schwartz highlighted everyday payments and easier access to investments; Garlinghouse sees XRP in a clearer legal position. The stalled CLARITY Act, meanwhile, shows that the broader regulatory classification of digital assets remains unresolved.

That distinction matters for valuation: progress at Ripple, in its payment services or with the RLUSD stablecoin is not automatically progress in demand for XRP. The offerings serve different roles, so institutional growth alone does not establish additional buying need for the token. The decisive evidence remains whether institutional plans turn into recurring applications with genuine XRP demand.
