XRP's Institutional Engine Revs While the Token Price Treads Water

The contrast could hardly be starker. On the same day XRP exchange-traded funds logged their strongest inflows on record, investors were simultaneously pulling capital from Bitcoin and Ethereum products. The trigger for the divergence was a speech by Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh at the central bank symposium in Jackson Hole, which markets read as a signal for tighter monetary policy. The crypto sector responded swiftly — just not uniformly.
Record Fund Demand Meets a Stubborn Spot Market
Spot XRP ETFs recorded net inflows of $110.49 million in the week through August 28, the strongest weekly figure of the year by a wide margin. Cumulative net inflows have since climbed to $1.66 billion, with total assets under management across all funds reaching $1.44 billion. Trading volume also surged to $363.03 million, the busiest week since these products launched.
What makes the inflow boom particularly noteworthy is that it has not tracked XRP's own price trajectory. The token currently trades at $1.39, up 28 percent on the month but down 5.0 percent on the week. Year-to-date, XRP remains 24 percent in the red. The disconnect between institutional appetite and spot performance has become the defining feature of the market.
Whale activity reinforces the picture of growing conviction. Wallets holding between one and ten million XRP accumulated 380 million tokens in a single week, lifting aggregate whale holdings from 16.05 billion to 16.36 billion XRP. Unusually, this marks the first time this year that such accumulation has coincided with rising ETF inflows — earlier buying phases typically occurred during outflows or stagnation. Goldman Sachs, meanwhile, disclosed a position of $86.5 million across five spot XRP ETFs in its latest filing, having previously reported no such exposure.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying XRP?
Ripple Prime Enters the Equities Arena
The institutional build-out extends beyond fund flows. Ripple's prime brokerage arm launched its delta-one business on Thursday, allowing institutional clients to execute total-return swaps on US-listed equities, indices, and digital assets for the first time. The offering targets hedge funds, market makers, and ETF issuers — a clientele traditionally anchored in conventional finance.
According to Bloomberg, this marks Ripple Prime's first foray into the equities market. The division holds more than $1 billion in regulatory net capital. It recently completed an upsized private placement of unsecured senior notes worth $275 million, following a $200 million credit facility secured from Neuberger Specialty Finance. The expansion underscores Ripple's ambition to position its infrastructure as a bridge between traditional capital markets and digital assets.
Ledger Upgrade Nears Activation
On the technical front, the XRP Ledger's fixCleanup3_3_0 amendment reached the required validator threshold on Friday with 82.86 percent approval, entering a two-week activation window. The upgrade could go live on the mainnet as early as September 11 — unless validator support drops to 80 percent or below, in which case the amendment would be rejected and the 14-day countdown would restart.
The update bundles fixes for existing features including Single Asset Vaults, the lending protocol, automated market makers, the permissioned DEX, Checks, and Pseudo-Accounts. It introduces no new core functionality, prioritizing stability over headline-grabbing features. An earlier release, version 3.3.0, rolled out in early August with private transfers, batch transactions, and sponsored fees aimed at enterprise clients.
Washington Uncertainty Clouds the Outlook
Political developments in Washington remain a wildcard. The US Senate has scheduled a cloture vote on the CLARITY Act for September 15, following a motion by Majority Leader John Thune — a move President Donald Trump had pushed for. Yet expectations on prediction markets have cooled markedly, with the probability of passage falling from a high of 58 percent to below 20 percent.
XRP at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
The regulatory overhang helps explain why XRP's weekly performance has been negative despite the record fund inflows. Short-term headlines from the capital continue to exert outsized influence on price action, even as institutional demand tells a different story.
Two Key Dates on the Horizon
Investors now face a compressed window of catalysts. The potential ledger activation on September 11 and the Senate vote four days later will likely determine whether XRP's institutional momentum finally translates into sustained price strength, or whether the token remains caught between record demand and a market that refuses to cooperate.
For now, the central question persists: can the unprecedented ETF inflows eventually break the decoupling from spot performance, or will XRP continue to run on two parallel tracks — one institutional, one retail — that rarely intersect?
