XRP's Institutional Engine Revs While Price Action Stalls at Resistance

The gap between XRP's price trajectory and the institutional machinery being assembled around it has rarely been wider. Even as the token consolidates below key technical levels, Ripple's corporate empire is expanding on multiple fronts — from a new derivatives arm backed by over a billion dollars in capital to a planned Nasdaq listing for a dedicated XRP treasury vehicle.
That divergence was on full display this week. XRP changed hands near $1.41-1.43, roughly flat on Friday after giving back a portion of last week's sharp advance. The pullback follows a 56 percent surge between August 18 and 22 that carried the token to an interim high of $1.6963, a move that strategists attributed to overbought conditions and profit-taking rather than any fundamental deterioration.
A Macro Spark, Not a Crypto Catalyst
The rally that preceded this consolidation was ignited not by XRP-specific news but by a policy announcement from Washington. On August 19, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the department would expand its long-dated bond buyback operations from $2 billion to at least $4 billion per operation, starting September 9. The mechanics are straightforward: Treasury repurchases remove supply from the bond market, lift prices and compress yields — an environment that historically favors risk assets including cryptocurrencies.
That macro tailwind was amplified by a cascade of crypto-market dynamics: $3.3 billion in short liquidations, accumulation of 380 million tokens by large addresses within a single week, and roughly $40 million in inflows into spot ETFs.
Washington's Regulatory Clock Ticks
Policy momentum has been building on multiple tracks. A White House crypto summit on August 19 brought Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse together with SEC Chair Paul Atkins, where the president pushed for swift Senate passage of the CLARITY Act — legislation that would classify XRP as a digital commodity under CFTC oversight. For institutional investors, the stakes extend beyond symbolism: a clear regulatory designation would remove the legal uncertainty that has constrained deeper engagement.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying XRP?
The market has already begun voting with its feet. US spot XRP ETFs recorded nine consecutive days of net inflows through August 25, adding approximately $23.87 million on that final day alone. Cumulative inflows have now surpassed $1.6 billion, a signal that a meaningful portion of recent demand is flowing through structured products rather than purely speculative channels.
Ripple Prime: Bridging TradFi and Crypto
On the corporate side, Ripple's subsidiary Ripple Prime has launched a Delta-One business offering institutional clients total return swaps on US equities, indices and digital assets from a single platform. The product allows hedge funds, market makers and ETF issuers to replicate underlying exposure nearly 1:1 through swap structures, complete with cross-margining between equity and digital asset positions. Ripple Prime reports regulatory net capital exceeding $1 billion.
The expansion was financed through a $200 million credit facility in May and $275 million in senior notes placed on August 18, built on the foundation of Ripple's $1.25 billion acquisition of Hidden Road completed in October 2025.
A Nasdaq-Bound Treasury Vehicle
Parallel to the derivatives push, Evernorth Holdings has received SEC effectiveness for its Form S-4 registration, advancing a plan to go public on Nasdaq via a merger with Armada Acquisition Corp. II under the ticker XRPN. Armada shareholders vote on September 30, with closing targeted for the third or fourth quarter of 2026. If completed, the entity would become the largest publicly listed XRP treasury vehicle, holding at least 473 million XRP.
The investor roster reads like a who's who of crypto and finance: Arrington Capital, SBI Group, Ripple itself, Pantera Capital, Kraken and GSR. Ripple CEO Asheesh Birla has framed the initiative as part of a broader shift in which institutional financial flows increasingly move on-chain, with Evernorth positioned to accelerate XRP's role in that transition.
Ecosystem Build-Out Continues
Beyond the headline initiatives, Ripple's ecosystem work proceeds on multiple fronts. The company's RLUSD stablecoin crossed the $2 billion market capitalization threshold between August 25 and 26 — roughly eightfold growth from the $250 million recorded in April 2025. Holdings on the XRP Ledger have nearly tripled since March, from $340.3 million to $962.8 million.
The ledger itself underwent a version 3.3.0 upgrade beginning August 8, introducing "Confidential Transfers" for enhanced institutional privacy. Developer libraries xrpl.js and xrpl-py have been updated accordingly, and over 60 percent of network nodes have already migrated. Mastercard announced on August 26 that it would participate in the XRP Ledger Hackathon in New York this October, extending a collaboration with Ripple that began in March.

Ripple is also addressing legacy technical debt: the company recommends retiring the XChainBridge extension (XLS-38) introduced in 2018, arguing that Axelar's interoperability network now covers the original use case. The removal could eliminate more than 10,000 lines of code. Separately, Ripple has initiated an AI-powered security audit of its lending protocol through the Sherlock audit engine, though no timeline has been published.
Supply Discipline and the Road Ahead
On the supply side, Ripple released 1 billion XRP from escrow on August 1 as part of its monthly schedule but immediately re-locked 700 million tokens, leaving just 300 million newly circulating. That pattern of restraint has helped temper concerns about selling pressure from scheduled unlocks.
For now, the token sits roughly 27 percent above its 50-day average of $1.13, reflecting the strength of the recent recovery — the 30-day gain stands at 32-34 percent depending on the measurement date. Yet the path back to September's yearly high of $3.18 remains substantial, and the token has struggled to hold above $1.50 amid derivative selling pressure and whale outflows from exchanges.
The picture that emerges is of an asset whose institutional foundation is being laid with remarkable speed — new derivatives products, a public treasury vehicle, record ETF inflows — while the price itself remains hostage to technical resistance and profit-taking. The infrastructure is being built; whether the market will pay up for it is another question.
