The institutional machinery surrounding XRP is expanding at a pace that belies the token's modest price action. While the digital asset trades at roughly $1.41–$1.42, roughly 26% above its 50-day moving average, the real story is unfolding in the infrastructure layer — where Ripple has just switched on a new derivatives desk, a treasury vehicle is preparing for a Nasdaq debut, and Wall Street's biggest names are quietly repositioning.

Prime Brokerage Goes Delta-One

Ripple's institutional prime brokerage unit, Ripple Prime, has launched a Delta-One trading business. The desk gives hedge funds and asset managers access to US equities, indices, and cryptocurrencies through total return swaps — a structure that allows institutions to gain economic exposure without holding the underlying asset directly. The unit operates with a regulatory net capital base of $1 billion, and Ripple has separately raised $275 million through a private placement of unsecured senior notes to fund its institutional market expansion.

The timing is deliberate. Spot XRP ETFs have been absorbing meaningful inflows, providing the demand-side foundation for the new derivatives offering. On August 26, the funds recorded net inflows of $28.14 million — the second-highest daily total of the year. The prior week brought $39.78 million in fresh capital, led by Bitwise Asset Management, Franklin Templeton, and Grayscale Investments. That followed a week ending August 20 that saw $214 million pour in, the strongest weekly showing since late July. Cumulative net inflows since the products launched now stand at roughly $1.57 billion.

A Nasdaq Debut and a Stablecoin Milestone

The institutional pipeline extends beyond derivatives. Evernorth Holdings, an XRP-focused treasury firm, has received SEC effectiveness for its registration statement. Following a merger with Armada Acquisition Corp. II, the company is slated to list on the Nasdaq under the ticker XRPN — creating another publicly traded vehicle for institutional investors seeking indirect XRP exposure.

On the stablecoin front, Ripple reported that the market capitalization of its RLUSD stablecoin has crossed the $2 billion mark for the first time. Roughly $1 billion of that supply is issued on the XRP Ledger, underscoring the ledger's growing role as a settlement layer for digital money. Ripple has also initiated an AI-only security audit of the XRP Ledger's lending protocol V1.1 through the Sherlock Audit Engine, with an eye toward enabling native on-chain credit markets.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying XRP?

Goldman Sachs Flips the Script

Perhaps the most striking signal of shifting institutional sentiment comes from Goldman Sachs. In its latest SEC filing, the bank disclosed an $86.5 million position across five spot XRP ETFs — a notable reversal after it had completely exited its positions in the first quarter. The move suggests that at least some of the sell-side's earlier caution is giving way to renewed conviction.

Not everyone is equally enthusiastic. Geoffrey Kendrick of Standard Chartered cut his year-end 2026 price target for XRP from $8.00 to $2.80 on Thursday, citing difficult chart patterns, while maintaining his long-term 2030 target of $28 unchanged. The analyst's caution stands in contrast to the operational momentum, though derivatives data tells a more complex story: estimated leverage for XRP at one major exchange recently hit a seven-month high, and open interest climbed sharply during last week's rally.

Regulatory Catalysts on the Horizon

The regulatory calendar is filling up. The SEC has formally acknowledged Cboe's filing to list options on several spot XRP ETFs, opening a 45-day review period that could be extended. A fourth US state has now introduced digital reserve asset legislation explicitly listing XRP as a permissible asset, following similar efforts in Texas, Utah, and Arizona.

Investors are also eyeing September 15, when a cloture vote on the CLARITY Act is scheduled in the US Senate. The bill, which would establish clear rules for digital assets, has already triggered a notable price jump in XRP as political support has grown. Further out, the XRPL Apex conference in New York, planned for late October, is expected to bring additional ecosystem announcements.

Price Action Tells Two Stories

The token's technical picture remains bifurcated. With a relative strength index of 70.4, XRP is technically overbought in the short term — hardly surprising given the 11% weekly gain. Between August 18 and 22, XRP jumped from roughly $1.00 to a high of $1.6963, a move attributed to a combination of ETF inflows, whale accumulation, and US regulatory developments. Yet on a year-over-year basis, XRP still sits 23% lower, a reminder that the recent recovery has only partially offset earlier losses.

Operationally, Ripple continues to expand its payments footprint. South Korea's Jeonbuk Bank has become the country's first regional bank to use Ripple Payments for cross-border transactions, following Ripple's earlier additions of Brazil and Colombia to its Latin American settlement corridors, which now span six countries. On the technical side, XRP Ledger validators have crossed the 80% approval threshold for a fix called "fixPreviousTxnID," which corrects transaction identification errors in edge cases.

Large on-chain movements remain under scrutiny. A transfer of 50 million XRP by Ripple to an unknown wallet in mid-August, part of which was subsequently forwarded to Binance, underscores that significant whale activity continues to draw attention.

The convergence of expanding institutional product offerings, accelerating ETF demand, and a thickening regulatory pipeline suggests the coming weeks will be defined less by day-to-day price swings and more by how quickly the institutional scaffolding around XRP can translate into sustained adoption.
