The gap between XRP's market performance and the machinery being assembled around it has rarely been wider. On one side sits a token that has shed roughly 11 percent over the past week, retreating to $1.36 after failing to hold the closely watched $1.70 resistance level. On the other sits a corporate ecosystem firing on multiple cylinders: record-breaking ETF inflows, a new institutional trading desk, a senior hire from London's metals market, and a CEO projecting a year of unprecedented revenue growth.

That tension was on full display Monday, when XRP slipped 2.9 percent — a decline that coincided with the scheduled release of 1 billion XRP from Ripple's escrow account, set for September 1. These monthly unlocks have long been viewed as a recurring overhang, injecting fresh supply into the market even though historical patterns suggest the actual impact is muted. Of the billion tokens released, Ripple has typically re-locked between 600 million and 800 million, meaning the net increase in circulating supply has historically ranged from just 200 million to 400 million XRP.

The monthly picture tells a different story than the weekly one. XRP remains up roughly 28 to 31 percent over the past 30 days, depending on the day of measurement, underscoring just how volatile the current trading range has become — a short-term pullback unfolding inside a medium-term uptrend. Year-to-date, however, the token still sits roughly 23 percent in the red.

Institutional Demand Tells a Different Story

The most striking counterpoint to the spot market weakness comes from the exchange-traded fund complex. The five US-listed spot XRP ETFs recorded net inflows of approximately $110.5 million in the week ending late August — the strongest weekly showing of the year. Cumulative net inflows have now reached an all-time high of $1.66 billion, with Bitwise's XRP ETF leading the pack at roughly $600 million, followed by Canary at $483 million and Franklin Templeton at just under $463 million.

That divergence — persistent selling pressure in the spot market against sustained institutional accumulation — suggests professional investors are treating the pullback as an entry point rather than a trend reversal.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying XRP?

Ripple's pivot toward institutional clients is no accident. CEO Brad Garlinghouse, speaking at the SALT conference in Wyoming, projected that revenue will more than double year-over-year, calling it a record year for the company. He also pushed back on the narrative that industry layoffs stem from artificial intelligence, arguing such firms were already "bloated" beforehand. Ripple currently employs around 1,500 people and lists 150 open positions.

The institutional push extends to new product lines. Through its brokerage arm Ripple Prime, the company has launched a "Delta One" trading desk offering institutional clients total-return swap access to US equities and digital assets, with XRP serving as collateral. Meanwhile, the company has brought on Joseph Thompson, the former Treasury Chief at the London Metal Exchange, to lead its push into tokenized commodity futures and regulated institutional products. Thompson brings more than 15 years of experience in clearing, liquidity, and collateral management.

Regulatory Calendar and Infrastructure Milestones

Several dates are now circling on traders' calendars. On September 15, the US Senate is scheduled to hold a procedural vote on the CLARITY Act, legislation that would formally classify XRP as a digital commodity under CFTC oversight. Later in the month, on September 30, shareholders of Evernorth — a Ripple-adjacent treasury firm — are set to vote on a Nasdaq listing under the ticker XRPN.

The XRP Ledger itself is undergoing quiet but significant upgrades. The "fixCleanup3_3_0" update has reached its 14-day activation phase with 82.86 percent validator approval, with mainnet implementation expected on September 11. Ripple is also advancing a four-stage "Quantum Protection Plan" designed to safeguard the ledger against future quantum computing threats, with NIST-recommended ML-DSA signatures already being tested and full implementation targeted for 2028.

The stablecoin ecosystem on the ledger is expanding as well. RLUSD, Ripple's dollar-pegged stablecoin, has surpassed $2 billion in market capitalization, with roughly $1 billion of that circulating directly on the XRP Ledger. The platform has also attracted third-party stablecoins including USDB from Braza Bank, EURCV from Société Générale, USDC from Circle, and EUROP from Schuman Financial — a sign that the ledger is increasingly establishing itself as infrastructure independent of the XRP token itself.

For investors, the coming week presents a test of competing forces: the September 1 escrow release may generate short-term selling pressure, while the accumulation happening through ETFs and the broader institutional build-out could provide medium-term support. The token's fate, as ever, will hinge on which of those currents proves stronger.
