XRP's Consolidation Phase Masks a Flurry of Structural Milestones

XRP slipped 5.1 percent on Saturday to trade at $1.38, a pullback that market participants largely read as a technical breather rather than the start of a deeper reversal. The digital asset had just completed one of its most explosive runs of the year, surging roughly 70 percent between August 17 and August 22 — from a cycle low of $0.9877 to a three-month high of $1.69 — a stretch in which it left both Bitcoin and Ethereum in the dust.
That velocity pushed the daily Relative Strength Index to 88, a reading not seen since July 2025, when XRP was approaching its all-time high near $3.65. Historically, such overheated conditions tend to resolve through consolidation as short-term traders lock in profits, and the current retreat fits that pattern. The move lower has already triggered forced liquidations of more than $20 million in leveraged long positions, according to market observers — an automatic process that can superficially resemble a sentiment shift without actually being one. No single regulatory or company-specific catalyst for Saturday's decline has been identified.
The Bigger Picture Remains Constructive
Zoom out, and the technical damage looks modest. XRP still trades 29 percent higher over the past 30 days, underscoring that the broader uptrend remains intact even as the daily chart flashes signs of nervousness. Analysts are now eyeing support near $1.37, with resistance clustered around the $1.50 to $1.55 zone.
Yet the more consequential developments this week were structural rather than price-driven. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Thursday declared the registration of Evernorth Holdings effective, clearing the path for a Nasdaq listing under the ticker XRPN. Evernorth, which counts Ripple, SBI Group, Pantera Capital, Kraken, GSR and Arrington Capital among its backers, plans to go public via a merger with special purpose acquisition company Armada Acquisition Corp. II. Armada shareholders vote on the combination on September 30, and the deal is expected to raise more than $1 billion. Ripple itself is contributing 126.8 million XRP to the venture.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying XRP?
Evernorth says it already holds roughly 473 million XRP, valued at approximately $672 million, though it has recorded unrealized losses of around $78 million on those holdings. If the merger passes, the combined entity would become the largest publicly traded XRP treasury company — a model explicitly modeled on the Bitcoin treasury plays that have gained traction on Wall Street.
Whales Move, Stablecoins Expand
Adding to the institutional narrative, market trackers flagged an unusually large outflow from Binance: large investors withdrew 231 million XRP, worth over $335 million — eight times the 90-day average. Such moves are often interpreted as a signal of long-term positioning away from exchanges, though the exchange's net taker volume simultaneously showed one of the strongest sell-side imbalances of the year, a contradiction that has fueled market jitters.
The ecosystem itself continues to scale. Ripple's stablecoin RLUSD crossed the $2 billion market capitalization mark on Tuesday, with nearly half of the circulating supply residing on the XRP Ledger. That represents roughly an eightfold increase from the $250 million RLUSD recorded in April 2025. The broader stablecoin supply across XRPL and Ethereum now stands at 2.091 billion. Separately, Ripple Prime raised $275 million on August 19 to expand its digital-asset operations in the U.S., and has launched "Delta One," a new service for institutional derivatives clients that positions it directly against offerings from Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan and Coinbase Prime.
Technical Upgrades and a Loaded Regulatory Calendar
On the protocol side, the XRP Ledger's "fixCleanup3_3_0" amendment has reached 82.86 percent validator approval and entered its two-week activation window. If support holds above 80 percent, it could go live on September 11, bringing changes to Single Asset Vaults, the lending feature, automated market makers and the permissioned DEX. Ripple also plans to strip out more than 10,000 lines of unused code from the XChainBridge function before the lending protocol ships in version 1.1, following an AI-assisted security audit that supplemented earlier reviews which had flagged 94 valid vulnerabilities.
Politics remains the wildcard. The Clarity Act, seen as a potential catalyst for the broader crypto sector, faces a procedural vote on September 15 after the Senate delayed action before the August recess amid bipartisan disputes over ethics rules and resistance from the banking industry. The measure needs 60 votes to overcome a filibuster. Prediction markets put the odds of passage this year at roughly 20 percent, while some institutional estimates are even more cautious, suggesting only around 10 percent before the midterm elections.
Add to that the scheduled release of 1 billion XRP from escrow on September 1 — a routine monthly event that traders will be watching — and the near-term picture is one of elevated volatility. Over the past twelve months, XRP remains down 53 percent, and it is off 25 percent year-to-date. For now, the token finds itself caught between a short-term chart that looks tired and a structural pipeline that keeps getting fuller.
