A surge in wallet creation has put the XRP Ledger's underlying growth in the spotlight, just as the network prepares to switch on a long-planned technical upgrade. Data from a single count on Tuesday showed 11,432 new accounts added in 24 hours — a 323% leap over the trailing 30-day average of roughly 2,700 registrations.

What exactly drove the spike is not yet pinned down. Analysts point to a mix of possible causes: genuine new-user inflows, internal restructuring at trading venues, migration of existing crypto wallets, or the technical onboarding of fresh applications. Whatever the trigger, the numbers point to a clear pick-up in on-chain activity.

That burst of activity coincides with final preparations for "BatchV1_1," a protocol change scheduled to activate on September 29. Validator support already clears the bar — 30 of the network's 35 validators back the measure, satisfying the 80% threshold required for activation.

What the Upgrade Changes

Once live, BatchV1_1 will let the network package as many as eight transactions into a single operation. Linked transactions in a bundle either settle together or fail as a group, a structure that lends itself to complex settlement workflows in securities and payments. Ayo Akinyele, who leads development at RippleX, said institutional asset managers and commercial projects are already gearing up to use the feature.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying XRP?

The efficiency gains for developers and institutional players handling intricate blockchain settlements form the core appeal of the change.

ETF Inflows and a Regulatory Backdrop

Institutional demand has been steadying alongside the protocol work. On Wednesday, US-listed spot XRP ETFs pulled in net inflows of $18.04 million, lifting the category's total assets under management to $1.65 billion. Bitwise's product captured the largest slice at $11.54 million, while Franklin Templeton's fund took in $6.50 million.

The flows signal continued institutional commitment even as political momentum stalls. The Digital Asset Market Clarity Act ran aground on procedural hurdles in the US Senate roughly ten days ago, though temporary SEC exemptions for tokenized securities are keeping some regulatory room open for now.

Ripple's Broader Push

Ripple itself has been busy on other fronts. The company is leaning more heavily on artificial intelligence to bolster security checks ahead of rollouts, and on September 17 it unveiled a partnership with payments provider Stripe to test automated billing for AI applications.

Attention is also turning toward "Swell 2026," set for late October in New York, where Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse and CME Group chief Terrence Duffy are slated to discuss market infrastructure, tokenized assets, and institutional crypto products.

Price Action

XRP traded firmly on Thursday, adding 1.9% to change hands at $1.53. The token has now stretched its lead over medium-term trend markers, sitting 18% above its 50-day moving average. The advance builds on a broader crypto recovery that earlier saw Bitcoin reclaim the $84,000 level, with technical momentum signals lending support to the token's recent climb.

For investors, the bigger picture on the chart still matters more than any single session's move: whether the current rebound holds will hinge largely on the token consolidating above its recent interim lows.
