XRP Ledger Clears Final Hurdle for Atomic Batch Transactions as ETF Inflows Hold Steady

Validators on the XRP Ledger have thrown their weight behind a long-delayed upgrade that lets the network process as many as eight linked transactions as a single, indivisible unit — a change that could reshape how complex payments move across the chain.
The batch feature, which ensures bundled transactions either all succeed or all fail together, has now crossed the activation threshold. Support had briefly dipped below the required 80% mark, forcing the two-week countdown to restart. With validator backing holding firm, the functionality is set to go live no earlier than October 9.
Emergency Patch Clears the Runway
Getting there required some housekeeping first. The XRP Ledger Foundation and RippleX pushed out server version xrpld 3.4.1 on Friday, an emergency release targeting security-related protocol issues and carrying a fix specifically for the pending batch upgrade. Node operators were urged to install it promptly to head off roadblocks during future protocol changes.
Once active, the atomic settlement of multiple linked transactions should streamline intricate payment flows and cut the risk of partially executed transfers. RippleX says asset managers and commercial projects are already gearing up to put the batch capability to work.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying XRP?
Attention is also turning to October 5, when permission delegation — a separate protocol amendment designed to let institutional users split administrative duties — goes to a vote.
Price Action Reflects Derivatives Cleanup
The token changed hands at $1.49 on Tuesday, down 0.4% on the day, after forced position unwinds and subsequent profit-taking dictated the pace. Short sellers had been caught offside earlier in the week, triggering a swift countermove. Even so, XRP sits 16% above its 200-day moving average of $1.28, keeping the technical picture constructive as market participants watch whether the price can consolidate above that long-term trend gauge following the derivatives shakeout.
Regulated Vehicles Keep Drawing Capital
Institutional demand has proven resilient despite the choppy spot trading. U.S. spot ETFs tied to XRP pulled in roughly $22.65 million in net inflows last Friday, with Bitwise's fund capturing about $18.39 million and Franklin Templeton's product drawing around $4.26 million. The prior Wednesday had already seen the two funds attract just over $18 million in fresh money.
Those steady purchases through exchange-traded products stood in sharp contrast to intermittent selling pressure on spot exchanges, where shorter-term players booked gains after recent price spikes.
Regulatory and Strategic Questions Linger
The technical progress unfolds against a backdrop of ongoing debate over the network's regulatory and strategic positioning. Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse, in resurfaced remarks, reiterated that XRP suits certain cross-border payments while stablecoins may better serve other clients' needs. In Washington, a bid to advance debate on the CLARITY Act fell short in the U.S. Senate on September 15 by a 49-to-50 margin, leaving the U.S. regulatory landscape as challenging as ever.
