XPeng has named Lee Man-sik as managing director of XPENG Motors Korea, handing the 30-year industry veteran the job of building the brand's sales and service footprint in a market where Chinese rivals are already on the ground. He takes up the post on December 1.

The appointment, confirmed yesterday, covers the organisational groundwork rather than any commercial launch. Lee will oversee the creation of a local business base, the development of a distribution and service network, partnerships and brand-building. No start of vehicle deliveries has been confirmed by the company.

Lee spent 23 of his more than three decades in the industry at Volvo Cars Korea, where he helped lift annual sales to roughly 15,000 vehicles, according to Yonhap. That local know-how maps directly onto what XPeng must assemble from scratch in South Korea — dealer channels and service capacity that do not yet exist.

Korea Timeline Still Unconfirmed

The Seoul Economic Daily has reported a possible market entry in the first half of 2027, conditional on the dealer network being built and vehicles securing type approval. The report names the G6, P7+ and X9 as possible launch models. XPeng itself has confirmed neither the sales start nor the local line-up, leaving the commercial introduction without a binding date even as the country leadership is settled.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying XPeng?

The push comes against a sharply expanding overseas business. XPeng delivered 13,326 vehicles outside China in October, a monthly record and a 166% jump on the year-earlier month.

South Korea is far from untouched territory for Chinese manufacturers. BYD entered last year and Zeekr began selling there this year, also per Yonhap, meaning XPeng would arrive into an already contested field.

October Record, But a Year Still Behind

October itself was a standout month: 50,237 vehicles delivered, up 22% on September and 20% higher year on year — a record that rests on more than a favourable month-on-month comparison. Even so, the broader trend lags. From January to September 2026, XPeng delivered 284,367 vehicles worldwide, 9.2% fewer than in the same period a year earlier.

Product news has run alongside the expansion. XPeng unveiled the Mona L05 in China on 29 October, an SUV offered with a pure battery-electric drivetrain and as a range-extender variant, with customer deliveries due to begin on Sunday. Two days earlier, on 26 October, the company secured a licence for Level 4 robotaxi demonstration runs in Guangzhou — approval to test operations and the business model under real-world conditions, explicitly not a full commercial permit.

The Financial Verdict Lands November 16

What ties these threads together for investors is the third-quarter 2026 report, due before the US market opens on 16 November, followed by a management call at 7:00 a.m. US Eastern time. The figures cover a period before October's delivery record, so they cannot capture its financial contribution — and unit volumes alone say nothing about revenue or profit. Delivery momentum and financial performance remain separate tests, and the upcoming report will supply the economic scorecard for the quarter just ended.
