The disconnect between what XPeng is achieving on the factory floor and how its stock is being treated on the trading floor has rarely been starker. On the very day the Chinese EV maker was touting operational milestones, its shares slumped to a fresh 52-week low, closing Wednesday at €10.16 in Frankfurt — a drop of 2.87 percent. The equity has now shed 43.71 percent of its value since the start of the year.

Delivery Numbers Tell a Complicated Story

The operational headline numbers, on their face, look solid. XPeng reported 38,027 vehicle deliveries for July on August 1 — a 4 percent improvement year-over-year. Yet that figure represents a 5.23 percent decline from June's 40,126 units, and it fell well short of the 45,000 vehicles that dealers had been anticipating, according to reports from CnEVPost and Benzinga. The shortfall weighed heavily on sentiment, with the stock touching $11.73 in US trading — also a new 52-week trough.

There was, however, a genuine bright spot buried in the same announcement: cumulative global deliveries crossed the 1.2 million vehicle mark as of July 31.

The quarterly picture offers more encouragement. Second-quarter deliveries jumped 64.8 percent quarter-over-quarter to 103,295 vehicles. That momentum hasn't translated into market confidence, though — a pattern playing out across much of China's EV sector, where investors remain fixated on margins, pricing wars, and geopolitical exposure rather than raw volume growth.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying XPeng?

Wall Street Wavers

Goldman Sachs trimmed its price target for XPeng from $23 to $20 on August 2, while maintaining a "Buy" rating. The adjustment came just days before the underwhelming July delivery report, signaling growing caution about the company's near-term growth trajectory.

Institutional investors appear similarly divided. Media reports suggest some funds have been adding to their positions while others have been trimming — hardly the picture of conviction either way.

The Product Pipeline Pushes Forward

On the product front, XPeng is anything but idle. On August 4, the company unveiled official images and technical specifications for the G9L, a five-seat flagship SUV successor to the G9, targeting the roughly 300,000 yuan (about $44,400) segment. The vehicle features 800-volt fast-charging technology capable of adding 450 kilometers of range in just nine minutes, with both pure-electric and range-extender powertrain options.

The MONA L03, meanwhile, had its global launch event in Munich on July 16, where it secured more than 20,000 firm orders within seven minutes. The model is slated to reach 65 countries and regions by the end of 2026. XPeng has also confirmed that its NGP driver-assistance system, powered by its in-house VLA 2.0 AI model, will roll out globally starting in 2027.

International Expansion as a Counterweight

With the domestic market mired in price competition, XPeng is leaning hard into overseas growth. First-half 2026 overseas sales climbed 154 percent in Europe and 144 percent in the Asia-Pacific region, according to company figures. Management is targeting 90,000 overseas vehicle sales for the full year — a doubling of the prior pace.

The geographic push continues on multiple fronts. Sales of the G6 and G9 models have just launched in Mexico through three local dealer groups across Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey. In Australia, XPeng plans to introduce five new models in the second half of the year and open 50 sales outlets within six months.

The Technical Picture Remains Fraught

Despite all this activity, the chart offers little comfort. The relative strength index sits at 32.7, indicating oversold conditions — yet no meaningful bounce has materialized. The stock trades just 0.20 percent above its yearly low, a stark reminder of how far it has fallen from its highs.

XPeng at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Automated valuation models suggest the stock's fair value sits well above current levels, though such calculations do little to address the competitive realities on the ground.

What August 24 Will Tell Us

XPeng is scheduled to release unaudited second-quarter 2026 results on August 24 before US markets open, with a management conference call set for 8:00 AM Eastern. Investors will be scrutinizing whether the July delivery weakness shows up in third-quarter guidance — and whether the overseas expansion story can plausibly offset the domestic slowdown.

The stakes are considerable. With the stock already down so sharply this year, expectations have been reset dramatically lower. That cuts both ways: the bar for disappointment is higher, but so is the potential for a sharp reaction in either direction once the numbers land.
