XPeng's Q2 Report Lands as Delivery Growth Collides With Investor Skepticism

The numbers are in, and the market's verdict will arrive within hours. XPeng releases its unaudited second-quarter results before the opening bell on Wall Street, with management's conference call scheduled for 8:00 a.m. Eastern Time. For a stock that has shed 42 percent of its value since January, the stakes could hardly be higher.
The share closed Friday at EUR 10.44, a mere 4.5 percent above the 52-week low of EUR 9.99 touched just days earlier. Over a trailing twelve-month window, the decline deepens to 47 percent. Technical indicators paint a similarly cautious picture: the stock sits 6.3 percent below its 50-day moving average of EUR 11.15 and roughly 29 percent beneath its 200-day average, while the relative strength index of 44.4 points to neither oversold conditions nor underlying momentum.
Wall Street's Mixed Signals
The analyst community has circled the report with notable restraint. Bernstein reaffirmed its Hold rating on August 18, following UBS's decision to maintain its own Hold stance on August 13. Neither house sees compelling upside nor acute downside risk — a posture that reflects the broader uncertainty surrounding the Chinese EV maker's trajectory.
That caution is understandable given recent history. In a prior quarter, XPeng posted a loss of $0.27 per share against expectations of just $0.11, on revenue of $1.89 billion. For those tracking the pattern, the question is whether Q2 repeats the miss or finally breaks it.
The Operational Story Tells a Different Tale
While the equity has struggled, the underlying business has shown genuine traction. July deliveries reached 38,027 vehicles, up 4 percent year over year, pushing cumulative global deliveries past 1.2 million units as of July 31. For the full second quarter, XPeng delivered 103,295 vehicles — including 40,126 in June alone — landing comfortably within its own guidance range of 100,000 to 106,000 units.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying XPeng?
Management had guided second-quarter revenue between RMB 19.60 billion and RMB 20.80 billion, with consensus expectations clustering around RMB 20.5 billion and a per-share loss of approximately RMB 0.77. The delivery figures suggest the operational base is holding up; whether the financials follow remains the open question.
Ambition Abroad, Complications Too
The international push continues apace. The L03 model made its global debut in Munich in mid-July, with plans to launch across 65 countries and regions this year. In Germany, the vehicle is listed from EUR 35,600, with deliveries slated for the fourth quarter of 2026. XPeng has also targeted overseas sales volume 2.3 times current levels for the model, and announced five new models for Australia in the second half of the year.
Yet expansion carries fresh risks. A recall of the X9 in Malaysia, initiated by distributor Bermaz Xpeng over a potential front air suspension issue, underscores the quality challenges that come with rapid international scaling. The replacement is free and carries an eight-year warranty, but the episode serves as a reminder that growth abroad introduces new operational variables.
The Robot Gambit
Beyond vehicles, XPeng is doubling down on humanoid robotics as a strategic frontier. CEO He Xiaopeng announced in June that he would personally lead the robotics division to accelerate commercialization. Mass production and initial deliveries of advanced humanoid robots are targeted for the fourth quarter of 2026, followed by deployment as sales consultants across domestic stores from the first quarter of 2027 and expansion into additional international markets by the second quarter of that year.
Two Forces, One Verdict
The quarterly report now becomes the arbiter between competing narratives. On one side stands a delivery record that met internal targets and an international strategy aimed at more than doubling overseas sales. On the other sits a share price trading near its floor, with investors increasingly unwilling to extend credit for future promises — particularly when profitability and the pace of investment in autonomous driving and AI remain in tension.
Should XPeng land within its guided revenue range and avoid another significant loss surprise, the downward momentum of recent weeks may at least slow. A repeat of the prior quarter's pattern — a loss substantially wider than anticipated — could send the stock sliding toward its recent low. The market's skepticism is not rooted in operational weakness; it stems from a growing reluctance to pay for potential that has yet to translate into earnings.
