XPeng's European Rollout Gathers Pace as Share Awards and a Tech-Wide Selloff Coincide
Published on 10/18/2026 at 16:31 | Editorial boerse-global.deXPeng closed Friday down 4.3% as a broad retreat in technology stocks weighed on the sector, but the company's own news flow pointed in a very different direction: new employee equity, an expanding European model lineup and a string of software and robotics targets stretching into 2027.
There is no established company-specific trigger for the share price decline. The filing that landed the same day concerns staff compensation, and analysts are treating it as a standalone corporate event rather than the cause of the move.
Restricted Stock Units Tied to Tenure, Not Targets
In a Form 6-K filing on Friday, XPeng disclosed the grant of 4,591,246 restricted stock units to 75 employees under its 2025 equity incentive plan. Vesting depends on continued service; performance targets are explicitly excluded. The underlying shares represent roughly 0.24% of issued stock, according to the company.
For investors, the key takeaway is the scale of stock-based compensation rather than any operational signal. The disclosure carries no revenue or profit conditions attached to the award.

Europe: From Graz Production Test to Paris Showroom
The European push has both a manufacturing and a marketing dimension. On 7 October, the G9L completed an initial production test at the Magna plant in Graz, Austria — a milestone distinct from series production. Five days later, on 12 October, XPeng presented the model in Europe, with pricing in France starting at EUR 74,990.
The launch was paired with public test drives of the company's Navigation Guided Pilot driver-assistance system. According to media reports, the head of XPeng's general intelligence division said on 12 October that the assistance software had been adapted to European requirements within two weeks, and that the company is working with European authorities toward a rollout next year. A technical adaptation, however, is not the same as a market launch — vehicle sales and software deployment should be assessed separately.
Google Play in the Cockpit — From Early 2027
On Thursday, XPeng announced native integration of Google Play into its AI-powered cockpits. The service is slated to go live in early 2027, making it a planned expansion of the digital offering rather than a feature available today.
The same distinction applies across the technology roadmap, where the timetable separates announcement, start of production and delivery. On Tuesday, CEO He Xiaopeng presented the XPeng AI Engineering concept and called for closer global cooperation across the auto industry. Mass production of humanoid robots is targeted for late 2026, with first deliveries in the first half of 2027 and a European launch in the second half of 2027.
MONA L05 Pre-Sale Opens in China
Closer to market is the vehicle pipeline. XPeng opened pre-sales for the MONA L05 on Thursday at prices from RMB 169,800 to RMB 191,800, with the official market launch set for 29 October. The China pre-sale complements the European activities with a further product date in the home market.
XPeng at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
Expansion Plans Meet Sector Headwinds
The corporate steps contrast with a difficult backdrop. Media reports point to subsidy cuts, price competition and overcapacity concerns weighing on China's electric vehicle sector, alongside possible European restrictions on Chinese EV imports.
That makes the dividing line for XPeng the gap between announced offerings and their execution. The upcoming model launch in China provides a concrete date. In Europe, attention centers on the G9L marketing push, the planned rollout of the assistance software and cooperation with regulators. The share price decline alone says nothing about whether those efforts will succeed.
