XPeng Opens Its AI Playbook to the Public While Betting on a 10,000-Unit MONA L05 Debut
Published on 11/06/2026 at 05:50 | Editorial boerse-global.deXPeng has handed the wider research community the keys to its perception model GroundingPI, publishing both the code and model weights. The disclosure lands alongside a far more commercial test of the company's momentum: customer deliveries of the MONA L05 have begun in China, with CEO He Xiaopeng targeting 10,000 units in the model's first month.
The two developments pull in different directions. One is a scientific milestone with no revenue attached yet. The other is a hard, checkable sales number that will show within weeks whether XPeng can convert a record October into a durable growth path.
A four-billion-parameter model, with caveats attached
GroundingPI was built with Peking University and the University of Hong Kong. XPeng says the model is intended to support intelligent driving, robotaxis and humanoid robots — a spread that touches several of the company's development fronts at once. Public access to the code does not, however, amount to a commercial rollout.
The model carries roughly four billion parameters. XPeng points to 34 public benchmarks spanning eleven categories to back its performance claims, a breadth that matters because the company is not leaning on a single test. On the published results, GroundingPI scored 73.68 against 71.54 for OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra, putting XPeng ahead in that particular evaluation.
Those figures are tied to the specific testing procedures used. A lead in benchmark comparisons cannot be mapped directly onto the capability of a finished vehicle or robot, so for shareholders the immediate takeaway is technical progress rather than commercial proof.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying XPeng?
Robotics simulations offer another data point. Systems running GroundingPI reportedly beat comparison models on success rate while using only 50% of the demonstration data; the comparison systems needed 75%. That hints at stronger results from less training material — an appealing prospect for learning systems, though XPeng is explicit that the work remains at the scientific prototype stage.
From research to the road
Concrete applications are already taking shape. XPeng has secured approval for Level 4 autonomous demonstration rides across the entire city of Guangzhou. Operations will start gradually and open first to invited participants.
Further out, the company plans the first deliveries of its IRON humanoid robot in overseas markets during the first half of 2027 — another potential home for perception technology. None of this yet proves that GroundingPI is ready for series production in those products.
The delivery story is where the numbers bite
On the vehicle side, the MONA L05 was unveiled in China on October 29 and is offered both as a battery-electric model and with a range extender. The launch therefore spans two powertrain options, and the question is how efficiently XPeng turns that choice into actual demand.
The bar is high. In October, XPeng delivered 50,237 vehicles on its own count — 22% more than the previous month and 20% above the same month a year earlier. Whether the new model can pick up that baton is the crux for any further re-rating.
He Xiaopeng's 10,000-unit target for the L05's first month makes the ambition tangible, but it remains a goal whose achievement would need to be confirmed by operational execution. That is precisely why the delivery news matters to investors: it creates a verifiable next step after a record month.
Overseas growth adds a second dimension
International business is gaining weight in parallel. XPeng reported a record 13,326 deliveries outside China in October, a 166% jump year on year.
XPeng at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
Here the company story meets a broader structural theme — building a presence abroad alongside the Chinese business. The development deserves a positive reading provided XPeng can hold or extend that elevated delivery level in the coming months. A record provides a reference point; consistency is what gives it meaning.
On Monday, XPeng confirmed its planned expansion into South Korea and named Lee Man-sik as Managing Director of XPENG Motors Korea. His appointment takes effect on December 1, 2026. The hire gives the push an organisational anchor, though its economic weight will depend on how the market entry is executed. Reported overseas deliveries, which document business already done, carry more weight than the additional market opportunity, which remains a prospect.
November 16 is the next financial checkpoint
XPeng will publish unaudited third-quarter 2026 results before US markets open on November 16. The October record falls after the reporting quarter, so the upcoming figures can supply a financial baseline against which investors can gauge the recent expansion.
The stock has been soft in the meantime. Shares showed a daily move of -2.4% in one session and -2.8% in another, with no positive price impulse evident. The operational case rests on record deliveries and sharply grown overseas business — provided they coalesce into a lasting growth trajectory. For the MONA L05, the next concrete marker is already set. Whether XPeng converts its opportunities convincingly will be settled in execution, both at the model ramp and in the step into further markets.
