Xiaomi shares climbed 4.1% in Hong Kong, swept up in a broad rally across the city's technology and auto names as softer oil prices and fresh Chinese support measures lifted the wider market. The advance came a day after the stock added 3.7% to close at EUR 3.34 — a move one observer declined to pin directly on the company's previously published delivery figures, noting that Reuters had drawn that link to Monday's gain, not Tuesday's.

October Deliveries Set the Tone

The operating story has genuine substance behind it. Reuters reported on Sunday that Xiaomi shipped more than 50,000 electric vehicles in October, a monthly record for 2026 and only the second time the company has cleared that threshold since entering the car business. Analysts expect deliveries to peak in the fourth quarter — a forecast about what is still to come rather than a reading of what has already been booked.

That distinction matters. Rising shipment volumes answer a question of quantity; they do not automatically settle the question of profit contribution. The same caution applies to the recognition Xiaomi picked up on Tuesday at the World Internet Conference in Wuzhen, where it was honored for its overall contribution and for robotics technology. Media reports tied one award to Xiaomi's robotics work and mentioned robot trials in a car factory alongside a test operation in a home setting. Awards and trials speak to technological activity, but they are measured on a different scale than earnings.

A Robot That Corrects Itself

There was a further data point from the factory floor. Chief executive Lei Jun said a humanoid robot had worked a full eight-hour shift at a sorting station in the car plant — a first — correcting errors on its own and demonstrating coordination with the production line. It is a striking proof of concept, though not yet a line item in the accounts.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Xiaomi?

Citi Keeps Its Buy, Cuts Its Numbers

The counterweight arrived from the sell side. Citi lowered its Xiaomi price target to HKD 33.2 from HKD 34, according to media reports, while leaving its buy recommendation intact. The stance is neither outright bearish nor unreservedly bullish: the house kept its positive fundamental view but marked down its stated target.

More telling than the target itself was the revision to earnings assumptions. Citi cut its adjusted earnings-per-share forecasts for the current year and the two following years by 7%, 9% and 7% respectively — an adjustment that spans more than a single reporting period. The combination of a confirmed buy rating and reduced forecasts is precisely what makes the call worth watching. It does not invalidate the operating strength, but it argues against translating higher vehicle shipments into higher profit expectations without further scrutiny.

November 24 Becomes the Real Test

Xiaomi announced on October 23 a board meeting for November 24, 2026, at which directors will review and approve the unaudited results for the third quarter of 2026, along with the unaudited figures for the first nine months of the year. The company calendar also sets that date for publication of its next financial report.

Xiaomi at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

That makes the November meeting the moment when the financial verdict on the operating progress comes due. Hard earnings numbers will carry more weight than further awards or a single strong delivery month. The takeaway is constructive rather than euphoric: Xiaomi's operational momentum deserves credit, but whether it matures into a more convincing earnings story remains the yardstick that counts.
