Vanguard's Flagship All-World ETF Defies Cannibalization Fears With Historic Weekly Inflow

Vanguard's FTSE All-World UCITS ETF saw its largest weekly inflow ever, €863M, even as the firm launched cheaper alternatives, underscoring investor loyalty.

The numbers keep getting harder to ignore. Between August 17 and 24, the Vanguard FTSE All-World UCITS ETF absorbed €863.3 million in net new money — the largest weekly inflow ever recorded by a European-listed exchange-traded product. The milestone lands at an awkward moment for the fund's parent company, which had just launched three competing products into the same global equity space.

Vanguard unveiled its new lineup on August 20 across the London Stock Exchange and Xetra: a FTSE Global All-Cap, a FTSE Global Small-Cap, and a FTSE All-World ex-U.S. UCITS ETF. The products also secured listings on Euronext Amsterdam, the Borsa Italiana, and the SIX Swiss Exchange. The pricing was deliberately aggressive — the Global All-Cap vehicle carries a total expense ratio of just 0.07 percent, half the cost of the established All-World fund.

Rather than siphoning assets away from the incumbent, the product offensive appears to have pulled fresh capital into the broader Vanguard franchise. The record weekly inflow into the older, more expensive fund suggests a meaningful cohort of investors is sticking with the proven vehicle despite the cheaper alternative now sitting on the same shelves.

That loyalty is not new. In July, the fund had already logged $3.79 billion in monthly inflows, the highest of any European ETF. Year-to-date, cumulative inflows have now surpassed $16 billion, according to market data. The fund's total assets stand at $76.8 billion, keeping it comfortably ahead of its nearest rival, the State Street SPDR MSCI All-Country World UCITS ETF. Notably, that competitor charges a lower fee of 0.12 percent yet has attracted only about half the inflow rate — evidence that investors are weighing liquidity, trading volumes, and brand trust alongside headline costs.

Vanguard has not been idle on the fee front. The firm cut the All-World fund's expense ratio from 0.19 percent to 0.14 percent roughly two weeks before the new products launched, following an earlier reduction from 0.22 percent in October 2025. Combined, the two cuts represent a 36.4 percent reduction in costs within a matter of months. The fund has given back 1.5 percent since the latest adjustment, a modest concession that has done little to dent its appeal.

The index behind the fund remains in flux. FTSE Russell has scheduled an investability-weight adjustment for Lenskart Solutions of India within the FTSE All-World Index effective August 28. The merger between Charter Communications and Liberty Broadband took effect in the index on August 20, removing the latter's shares from the composition. A larger reshuffle looms on September 21, when six Vietnamese names — including Vietcombank, Vingroup, and Vinhomes — are slated for inclusion in the FTSE All-World Index, part of a broader expansion that will see 27 Vietnamese equities enter FTSE Russell's Global All-Cap universe.

The share price closed Tuesday at €166.50, up 0.4 percent on the day and just 2.2 percent below its 52-week high of €170.24, set in mid-August. The fund has gained 15 percent since the start of the year and 22 percent over the trailing twelve months.

The strategic logic behind the new product family is becoming clearer. The Small-Cap and ex-U.S. variants give investors the ability to fine-tune their global allocations — overweighting smaller companies or trimming U.S. exposure without abandoning the Vanguard ecosystem. For those who prefer a single, broadly diversified vehicle, however, the flagship fund's combination of scale, liquidity, and recently reduced fees continues to make it the default choice. The record inflows suggest that, at least for now, Vanguard's newest children are expanding the family rather than competing for the same inheritance.
