Vanguard's All-World ETF Tightens Its Grip: Fee Cut, Record Flows, and a Family That Keeps Growing

The numbers tell a story of quiet dominance. Vanguard's FTSE All-World UCITS ETF, the $79.6 billion behemoth of European index investing, just wrapped up a July that saw it pull in more new money than any other ETF on the continent — roughly €3.3 billion, according to Morningstar Direct, or $3.42 billion by Ultumus's global flow tracker. That's more than double the haul of the second-best-selling European fund.
Yet the fund's most intriguing rival isn't a competitor from BlackRock or State Street. It's Vanguard itself. Three weeks ago, the asset manager listed three new ETFs on European exchanges — a FTSE Global All-Cap, a FTSE Global Small-Cap, and a FTSE All-World ex-US — each designed to sit alongside the flagship rather than replace it. The expansion follows a busy year for the firm, which had already rolled out new Russell-linked funds and European equity products in July.
A Cheaper Ticket to the Same Destination
The most consequential change, however, came two weeks ago, when Vanguard sliced the fund's total expense ratio from 0.19 percent to 0.14 percent. That marks the second reduction in under a year, following an earlier cut from 0.22 percent in October 2025. The fee move has coincided with a modest 1.9 percent dip in the share price — a decline the fund's managers attribute to broader market conditions rather than the pricing change itself, since a lower cost ratio would typically support, not depress, net asset value.
Investors have hardly been deterred. Year-to-date net inflows have reached $18.2 billion, according to ETF Stream citing TrackInsight, with Funds Europe reporting a slightly more conservative figure of over $16 billion. The fund's total assets stood at $79.553 billion as of July 31, of which $53.365 billion sits in the USD-accumulating share class.
What You're Actually Buying
A closer look at the portfolio reveals just how concentrated global diversification has become. As of May 31, the fund held 3,763 individual securities — fewer than the 4,256 positions in the FTSE All-World Index itself. This sampling approach is standard practice among broad equity funds, allowing the manager to focus on the holdings that matter most for index returns rather than replicating every marginal position.
The top ten holdings account for 25.6 percent of net assets, a concentration that underscores how heavily even a globally diversified fund leans on a handful of tech giants. Nvidia leads the pack at 4.7 percent, followed by Apple at 4.3 percent and Alphabet at 3.8 percent. Microsoft, Amazon, and Broadcom each contribute between 2 and 3 percent, rounded out by Taiwan Semiconductor, Meta, Tesla, and Samsung.
For investors, the message is clear: buying this fund means buying a bundle of large-cap US technology stocks with a broad global tailwind attached. The accumulating share class reinvests all dividends automatically, a design that favors long-term compounding and offers tax-deferral benefits for many investors.
A Steady Course
The fund closed Monday at 165.86 euros, hovering just above its 50-day moving average of 165.58 euros. It sits 2.6 percent below its 52-week high of 170.24 euros, reached on August 13. The 30-day annualized volatility of 12 percent suggests a notably calm stretch for a fund spread across thousands of equities.
That stability belies impressive longer-term performance: the fund has returned 21 percent over the past twelve months. The new sibling funds, meanwhile, have yet to dent demand for the original — the flagship has actually gained 1.1 percent since their launch. For investors seeking broad global exposure at a shrinking cost, the All-World ETF remains the cornerstone of Vanguard's European lineup, with a growing family of specialized alternatives now available for those who want to fine-tune their exposure.
