Shares of TKMS advanced 3.5% on Friday to close at 83.30 euros, lifted by a broader improvement in sentiment across the European defence sector rather than by any company-specific catalyst. The move came as investors returned to the sector after a lengthy stretch of caution, with defence names across the board participating in the recovery.

The shift in mood was driven largely by an upbeat sector study from Morgan Stanley. According to a report by the news agency dpa-AFX, analysts at the US investment bank expect the awarding of contracts from the German defence budget to pick up noticeably toward the end of the year. Traders pointed to the prospect of additional procurement programmes as a tailwind for the entire industry, and TKMS slotted into that upward trend.

Eight Frigates and a 5.6 Billion Euro Price Tag

Underpinning the longer-term picture, the budget committee of the German Bundestag has given the green light for the procurement of four additional MEKO® A-200 DEU frigates. Media reports put the financial volume for the extra vessels at roughly 5.6 billion euros. The approval expands the running programme to eight ships in total, a package TKMS has described as the largest surface-vessel contract in its history.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying TKMS?

The company welcomed the parliamentary decision and stressed that the follow-on order reliably secures continuation of series production. While the political milestone was not viewed in the market as the immediate trigger for Friday's gains, it meaningfully strengthens the maritime supplier's long-term order backlog.

mwb research Reiterates 140 Euro Target

Analyst support has arrived in parallel. On 7 October, mwb research confirmed its buy recommendation on TKMS with a price target of 140 euros. The analysts cited the planned order for the four additional frigates, whose financial framework they put at 5.3 billion euros. Combined with the general momentum in the sector, that volume bolsters institutional confidence in future utilisation of the shipyard's capacity.

The recent rebound fits into a broader positive trend. Since the start of the year, TKMS shares have gained 26%, shrugging off intermittent periods of weakness on the back of robust political direction and the ongoing re-rating of military defence assets. A combination of solid fundamentals and a favourable industry climate has provided noticeable support to the stock of late.

Even after the latest advance, the shares remain 23% below their 52-week high of 108.80 euros. Whether the recovery can be sustained is likely to hinge on how quickly the expected budget funds actually translate into firm contract awards.
