Media reports say Germany's defence ministry plans to buy four more MEKO A-200 DEU frigates from TKMS, pending budget committee approval.

A potential four-vessel order from the German Navy is emerging as the next major catalyst for TKMS, arriving just as the Kiel-based shipbuilder works to finalize a European submarine alliance and pushes ahead with yard activity in Wismar and Brazil.

According to media reports, the Federal Ministry of Defence intends to procure four additional MEKO A-200 DEU frigates from TKMS. Should parliament's budget committee give the green light, the contractor would lock in long-term baseline utilization of its naval shipbuilding capacity and cement its standing as lead contractor for future German Navy platforms.

The timing lands amid a broader reshuffling of Germany's surface fleet. On Friday, Dutch yard Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding lodged payment and release claims of roughly EUR 4.7 billion against the Federal Republic of Germany, triggered by the cancellation of the F126 frigate program. TKMS is named neither as a defendant nor as a contracting party in that dispute.

Submarine Alliance Targets Year-End Framework

On the European front, TKMS and Fincantieri signed a memorandum of understanding on September 1 aimed at deepening cooperation in submarines and the wider underwater domain. The two partners intend to establish a joint cooperation framework before the year is out.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying TKMS?

That effort is flanked by initiatives in the Middle East. Roughly a week ago, TKMS and the EDGE Group agreed a letter of intent to examine shared capabilities in underwater surveillance and maritime infrastructure protection. The move forms part of a security cooperation arrangement between the German government and the United Arab Emirates, with an integrated system under evaluation.

Wismar Steel Cut, Brazil Dock Opens

Operationally, TKMS marked progress on several fronts. On Wednesday, the first steel was cut at the company's Wismar yard for the fifth and sixth Invincible-class submarines, ordered by the Republic of Singapore Navy — a program now advancing into its next production phase.

Separately, TKMS Dock began operations in Itajaí, Brazil, on September 29 and immediately booked its first assignment: an agreement with Saam Towage covering docking and maintenance of the tug Antares.

Bernstein Keeps Outperform, 125-Euro Target

Despite recent share-price softness, analysts still see room to run. On September 21, Bernstein Research reaffirmed its "Outperform" rating on TKMS and left its price target unchanged at EUR 125.

The stock closed Friday at EUR 79.00, a gain of 19 percent since the start of the year.

Investors now turn to the fundamental picture. TKMS plans to publish its annual financial report on December 7, according to its financial calendar. First-quarter figures for 2027 follow on February 10, with the half-year report due on May 12, 2027. Those releases should shed light on how the new defense programs flow through to the balance sheet.
