TKMS shares closed Monday's session at 83.80 euros, leaving the naval shipbuilder up 27 percent since the start of the year on a market capitalisation of roughly 4.71 billion euros. That advance now sets the bar for the company's full-year 2025/26 results, due for release on 7 December 2026, with two brokerage notes published the same day pointing investors toward the same 115-euro price target — though for different reasons.

Two Routes to the Same Number

Deutsche Bank Research lifted its target from 112 to 115 euros on Monday and kept its "Buy" rating. Analyst Sriram Krishnan sees a strong close to the 2025/26 financial year taking shape, with both order intake and operating performance expected to reflect it.

Bernstein Research moved in the opposite direction on the target, trimming from 120 to 115 euros, while holding its "Outperform" stance. Analyst Adrien Rabier attributed the cut to lower liquidity assumptions rather than any loss of confidence in the business, and he expects results comfortably ahead of market consensus. He also raised the possibility that TKMS could lift its medium-term EBIT target.

That last point carries more weight than either headline number. A higher medium-term goal would signal that the current strength extends beyond a single reporting period — but it remains an analyst's expectation, not a company decision.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying TKMS?

Wismar: Capacity Is Not the Same as Contracts

The expansion plan at the Wismar yard offers a concrete test of whether optimism translates into industrial reality. According to media reports dated 2 October, TKMS intends to grow the site for submarine and surface vessel construction. Around 500 people were employed there at the end of September.

Under the right order conditions, as many as 1,500 positions could be created by the end of 2029. That figure describes a ceiling, not a current headcount, and the company has tied it explicitly to sufficient demand. Extra capacity on its own would not prove higher earnings; the yard's growth only becomes meaningful if backed by contracts that align with the operating trajectory analysts are forecasting.

The Risk Sits in the Expectations, Not the Numbers

The awkward part of the setup is how much good news is already priced in. When analysts are modelling results well above consensus, even solid figures may fail to trigger a further re-rating. Investors would do well to separate a good set of accounts from a genuine positive surprise.

A decision not to raise the medium-term EBIT target would not in itself amount to an operational deterioration. It would, however, remove one of the main pillars supporting the bullish case. The danger is not confined to weak trading — it also lies in an improvement that falls short of what has been hoped for. Bernstein's lower target illustrates the distinction neatly: a positive view on earnings does not automatically produce a higher price objective.

A Personnel Move Adds to the Picture

Alongside the order book and the balance sheet, there is a change in the company's surroundings. Christian Ellsiepen is moving to TKMS from the energy group RWE, according to media reports. No specific role or area of responsibility has been disclosed in connection with the appointment.

TKMS at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

What December Has to Deliver

The positive scenario holds together as long as the expected operating strength is confirmed and higher medium-term ambitions become credible. Should the expectation of a lasting improvement falter, the optimistic valuation would need revisiting — a favourable sector backdrop alone would not substitute for company-specific evidence.

Order intake, operating performance and any revision to medium-term targets will therefore matter more than the direction of individual target changes. The analysts have supplied the expectations; TKMS now has to supply the proof. Only the combination of hard figures, stated goals and an expansion backed by orders will show how far the longer-term story actually carries.
