Kepler Cheuvreux trimmed its price target on TKMS to 95 euros from 102 euros on Friday, but the French brokerage kept its Buy rating intact — a signal that the Kiel-based naval shipbuilder's long-term order visibility still carries weight with the analysts who follow it. The adjustment came on the same day the stock added 3.5% to close at 83.30 euros, riding a broad recovery across European defence names rather than any company-specific announcement.

That sector-wide advance had several drivers. Morgan Stanley pointed to the prospect of additional procurement orders flowing from the German federal budget before year-end, and flagged the typically favourable seasonality in the defence segment. Media reports also cited shifting geopolitical signals — including fresh doubts over the reliability of future US support for Ukraine — as a factor behind the trading momentum. Falling market interest rates lent further support to the sector as a whole.

Frigate Programme Doubles to Eight Hulls

Underpinning the share price is an operational base strengthened by a recent political decision. The budget committee of the Bundestag greenlit the procurement of four additional MEKO A-200 DEU frigates for the German Navy. Combined with the first tranche, the fleet order now stands at eight vessels — a programme TKMS has described as the largest surface-vessel order in its corporate history, one that allows series production to continue.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying TKMS?

Figures on the financial scale of the package vary across reporting. Tagesschau put the cost of the four extra frigates at roughly 5.3 billion euros, while Deutschlandfunk sized the full eight-ship programme at around 11.6 billion euros. Under the current schedule, the German Navy is due to take delivery of the first unit at the end of 2029.

Order Book Backs Multi-Year Visibility

The expanded frigate contract gives the shipyard group a multi-year runway in military surface shipbuilding and bolsters its competitive standing in Europe, with the filled order book providing planning certainty for years ahead. Shares in TKMS have gained 26% since the start of the year.

With the operational picture now clearer, attention turns to the company's next official date. TKMS intends to publish its annual results for fiscal 2026 on 7 December 2026, offering a detailed look at its financial trajectory.
