Two very different kinds of news are converging on TKMS this autumn, and investors would do well to keep them apart. On one side sits the valuation debate among brokers, where growth forecasts and cash assumptions pull in opposite directions. On the other stands a local recruitment drive aimed at filling the Wismar yard with workers laid off elsewhere. Neither thread settles the other.

The personnel story broke on a Friday, when media reports said the city of Wismar and the district of Nordwestmecklenburg want to attract roughly 300 former Ford employees from Saarland. A delegation is due to travel to Saarbrücken at the end of November. The initiative belongs to the municipality and the district, not to TKMS itself, and the figure describes a recruitment target rather than signed employment contracts. No headcount increase at the shipyard can be read into it yet.

Still, the report is more tangible than a vague discussion about staffing needs. It names a site, a specific group of workers and a planned next step. Whether the pitch actually produces moves to the Baltic coast will be the measure that matters.

A frigate approval sets the business backdrop

The commercial context comes from Berlin. On 8 October the budget committee of the German Bundestag approved the purchase of four additional MEKO A-200 frigates for the German Navy, a decision TKMS published in a company release. That parliamentary green light concerns ship procurement; the Wismar recruitment effort concerns staffing. No direct link between the two can be inferred.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying TKMS?

Confirmed capital-market dates run alongside. TKMS holds its Scandi roadshow in Stockholm from 2 to 3 November 2026, followed by the Metzler investor dialogue in Frankfurt on 5 November. Both offer a forum for exchange with shareholders, but neither is tied to an announcement of new orders or fresh figures.

Where the analysts split

The research community has been pulling in different directions. Bernstein Research cut its price target to EUR 115 from EUR 120 on 19 October while keeping its "Outperform" rating. The reason given was reduced liquidity assumptions. A lower target, in other words, did not signal a retreat from the positive stance — it shows that an attractive valuation can coexist with more cautious assumptions on a single input.

mwb research took the other tack. On 21 October it reaffirmed its buy recommendation and its EUR 140 target, projecting revenue growth of more than 16% for fiscal 2025/26. The house also cited an adjusted EBIT margin of around 6.3% and an order backlog of roughly EUR 25 billion, flagging possible additional contracts as a further share-price driver.

Those are two distinct layers: the backlog already booked and the prospect of more business to come. Additional orders are an opportunity in this argument, not a secured development, and the margin expectation remains the analyst's own assumption. Expected growth is not reported results.

Reading the two signals separately

What emerges is a contrast in emphasis rather than a contradiction. mwb research leans on growth, margin and potential contracts; Bernstein anchors its adjustment explicitly in liquidity. Neither a confirmed operational deterioration nor a guaranteed extra growth spurt follows from either view.

The Metzler event on 5 November gives investors a reference point for weighing these approaches, though it carries no promise of new orders or numbers. The question that remains is how the anticipated business trajectory and the liquidity assumptions sit together — and the recruitment push in Wismar will be judged not by its target of 300, but by how many former Ford workers actually sign on.
