Two of Europe's most closely watched research houses have converged on the same 115-euro price target for TKMS — but they arrived there from opposite directions, and the market is still working out what that says about the Kiel shipbuilder's balance sheet.

Deutsche Bank Research nudged its target up from 112 to 115 euros on Monday, keeping a "Buy" rating, with analyst Sriram Krishnan pointing to operational momentum and order intake that should build noticeably through the close of fiscal 2025/26. Bernstein took the other road: analyst Adrien Rabier trimmed his target from 120 to 115 euros and stuck with "Outperform," citing more cautious liquidity assumptions rather than any doubt about the business itself.

The shares traded at 83.70 euros on Monday, up 0.5% on the day, leaving them well short of both targets. Year-to-date the stock has gained 26%.

A Quarter That Could Beat the Street

Rabier expects the upcoming figures to clear consensus estimates by a comfortable margin, and he sees room for management to lift its medium-term EBIT guidance. Bernstein has pencilled in 22% revenue growth for the final quarter, with the operating margin climbing to 8.3% — a level that would mark a step up in profitability from earlier planning.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying TKMS?

That margin trajectory is now the focal point for investors. The question dominating the debate is how fully TKMS has loaded its yard capacity, and whether scale effects can absorb the cost pressure running through the defence sector.

Berlin Locks In the Backlog

Underpinning the long-term workload, the budget committee of the Bundestag has approved the procurement of four more MEKO A-200 DEU frigates. The German government puts the total value of those four additional units at EUR 5.3 billion. Combined with ships ordered earlier, the programme now stands at eight vessels and is in its implementation phase.

Two Big Contracts Before the Turn of the Year

Deutsche Bank's Krishnan also flags two major agreements expected before year-end: a Canadian deal worth more than EUR 15 billion and submarine projects with India exceeding EUR 4 billion. Contracts of that size would keep the yards busy for years and cement TKMS's position in international competition — and would come at a useful moment for management, easing concerns about future cash inflows.

Not everyone is convinced. Speculative investors have been building short positions, a bet that contrasts sharply with the sector's persistently high expectations and the pipeline of fleet programmes. The stock held steady through it all, gaining 0.8% to 84.00 euros at one point in the session.

The full picture arrives on 7 December 2026, when TKMS publishes its annual financial report for fiscal 2026. That release will show whether order intake and operating performance can validate the recent round of expectations — and whether the shorts or the bulls have read the liquidity story correctly.
