Super Micro Computer gave investors two reasons to cheer on Wednesday rather than one. The server maker raised both its revenue and gross margin forecasts for the fiscal first quarter of 2027, a combination that pushed the stock up 13% and signaled that stronger AI demand is arriving alongside better profitability. The figures, however, remain preliminary and unaudited.

Revenue outlook jumps well past prior range

Super Micro now expects revenue of $18.5 billion to $19.5 billion for the quarter ended September 30. That compares with an earlier projection of $14.5 billion to $15.5 billion — even the low end of the new range sits above the high end of the old one. Management pointed to increased demand for AI platforms as the main driver, with customer and product mix adding to the improvement.

The new estimate also clears the analyst consensus. Reuters, citing LSEG, put the average Wall Street forecast at $15.23 billion.

Margin guidance moves higher as well

On profitability, Super Micro sees a gross margin of 12.0% to 12.5%, up from the 10.4% to 10.8% it had previously guided. The company attributed the lift primarily to a more favorable customer and product mix. A Reuters-cited analyst estimate had stood at 10.15%, meaning the new range beats both the company's own prior forecast and the consensus figure.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Super Micro Computer?

Evercore ISI analyst Amit Daryanani called the margin impressive and read the update as a positive data point for AI compute demand. VanEck analyst Matthew Sigel, meanwhile, pointed to demand from emerging neocloud providers and cloud service providers, as well as some enterprises, describing the update as a sign that infrastructure buildouts by neocloud operators and AI labs are continuing.

For investors, the two pieces of guidance reinforce each other: the extra volume does not, on the preliminary numbers, come at the cost of a thinner gross margin.

Nokia tie-up adds a new deployment avenue

Alongside the business update, Super Micro announced a collaboration with Nokia on AI-powered radio access networks. The effort combines Nokia's RAN technology, NVIDIA's Aerial RAN Computer platform and Super Micro's AI infrastructure. According to the company, servers for NVIDIA ARC are generally available, with some configurations to follow later. The announcement describes an additional use case for Super Micro's offering but contains no revenue forecast for the partnership, and the main catalyst for the day's share price move remains the raised top- and bottom-line expectations.

Super Micro Computer at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

November 3 is the real test

The positive signal comes with a clear caveat. The quarter's closing work is not yet complete, the auditor has not reviewed the estimates, and final results could differ. Super Micro will report full quarterly figures on November 3, with an earnings call scheduled for 5:00 p.m. ET. Investors will be watching whether the company confirms both the higher revenue and the higher margin at that point — only then does the preliminary signal harden into a reliable quarterly verdict.
