Stellantis closed at EUR 3.90, down 6.5%, near its 52-week low, as four French plants and Windsor halt output; Q3 results land October 28.

Stellantis ended Friday's session at EUR 3.90, down 6.5%, leaving the stock hovering just above its 52-week low of EUR 3.82. The decline came as investors weighed a fresh round of production stoppages against a mixed picture from the company's two largest markets.

French Plants Idled, 8,400 Workers Affected

The automaker confirmed Tuesday that it will halt output at four French facilities during October. At Sochaux and Rennes, the problem is a shortage of batteries suited to long-range electric vehicles. Poissy and Mulhouse are being paused for inventory management instead — a distinction that suggests the disruption stems from more than a single supply-chain snag. Roughly 8,400 employees are caught up in the measures, according to media reports.

North America is feeling its own version of the squeeze. Stellantis Canada said Friday that its Windsor assembly plant will sit idle during the weeks beginning October 19 and 26, and again from November 2. Management pointed to shifting market conditions, listing consumer demand and tariffs among the factors behind the decision.

Citroën and Fiat Deliver Double-Digit Gains in France

Not every data point pointed the same direction. September sales figures from France, released Thursday, showed the group's passenger-car volumes rising 6.7% year on year when Leapmotor is excluded. Citroën posted a 21.3% jump in passenger-car deliveries, while Fiat advanced 27.5% across passenger cars and light commercial vehicles.

The company also moved to tighten its commercial operations in its home market. Its French subsidiary reorganized its business-customer structure on Thursday, a step aimed at bundling fleet support more efficiently across all group brands. Luca Parasacco took charge of commercial activities for Free2move eSolutions and Free2move Charge in Enlarged Europe the same day, effective October 1.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Stellantis?

A Split US Quarter: Ram Up 29%, Jeep Down 20%

Across the Atlantic, the third quarter laid bare a structural imbalance. Ram sales climbed 29%, but that gain was overshadowed by a 20% drop at Jeep. Total US deliveries for the quarter came to 324,277 units — flat against the prior-year period. The mix matters for profitability: Jeep has long been a dependable earnings engine, and weakness there lands harder when European lines are already standing still.

Berenberg Cuts to Hold, Target Slashed to EUR 5.10

Professional sentiment has cooled accordingly. Berenberg downgraded Stellantis from Buy to Hold on September 21, cutting its price target to EUR 5.10 from EUR 7.80. The revision signals that analysts now take a more cautious view of the group's medium-term earnings power.

Product Offensive and Paris Show Offer Counterweight

Management is betting on new metal to change the narrative. Jeep unveiled the Cherokee Trailhawk for the 2027 model year on Wednesday, leaning on off-road capability and hybrid efficiency to win back US buyers in a core segment. Stellantis also showcased hands-free driving technology in a demonstration with Wayve on Thursday.

The biggest stage comes next: from October 12 to 18, the group will present nine concept vehicles from eight different brands at the Paris Motor Show, an effort to sharpen its strategic profile and generate momentum in Europe.

October 28 Emerges as the Real Test

Whether the battery bottlenecks prove temporary or expose deeper operational fractures is the question that will define the coming weeks. If support at the yearly low holds, a technical stabilization around the EUR 4 mark is conceivable, particularly if French battery supply is restored quickly and the Paris showcase lands well. A sustained break below EUR 3.82 would leave the stock without an immediate technical floor.

The decisive date is already circled: Stellantis reports third-quarter 2026 financial results on October 28, when the cost of the plant stoppages and the US sales mix shift will finally show up in the numbers.
