UN expert returns to Somalia on official visit

GENEVA, 07 May 2024 / PRN Africa / -- The UN Independent Expert on the situation of human rights in Somalia, Isha Dyfan, is on her third official visit to the Federal Republic of Somalia until 10 May.

The Independent Expert will engage with Government officials, representatives of the UN Assistance Mission in Somalia, UN Support Office in Somalia, UN agencies, as well as key international and regional partners to take stock of the human rights situation.

Dyfan will also hold meetings with human rights defenders and civil society organisations.

The Independent Expert will share her preliminary observations from the mission on Thursday 9 May. Details on time and location will be issued locally.

The expert will present a comprehensive report on her visit to the Human Rights Council at its fifty-seventh session beginning in September 2024 and to the General Assembly at its seventy-ninth session this year.
