SK Hynix Rebounds as US Yield Relief and Dalian Export Approval Take Center Stage
Published on 10/16/2026 at 12:02 | Editorial boerse-global.deA softer tone in the US bond market gave South Korean equities room to breathe on Friday, and SK Hynix was among the clearest beneficiaries. The memory chipmaker's shares climbed 3.2% to close at 1,303,000.00 KRW, snapping a seven-session losing streak that had pushed the stock as far as 57% below its 52-week high.
The retreat in US yields rippled across Asia's technology complex, offering investors a pause after macroeconomic anxiety had weighed on regional trading floors. For memory producers, global interest-rate trends sit alongside market access and regulatory clearance as key variables in operational planning, and both themes converged on SK Hynix this week.
Washington's Export Pen and the Dalian Module
Regulatory matters took center stage at the company level. Reuters reported on Wednesday that SK Hynix is seeking US government approval to ship additional American-made chipmaking equipment to its facility in Dalian, China. The request is tied to plans for a new fabrication plant on US soil, according to the report.
SK Hynix stressed that installation of the equipment in the so-called Module B at Dalian is proceeding in close coordination with, and subject to approval from, US authorities. The company also made clear that the step does not amount to an expansion of existing production capacity.
Analysts Push Back on the Selloff
Market watchers have framed the recent downward pressure as a sentiment-driven correction rather than evidence of a structural breakdown. KB Securities argued that the selling wave across the South Korean market was overdone, noting that SK Hynix trades at a price-to-earnings ratio of roughly 2.6 based on estimated 2027 earnings.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying SK Hynix?
Han Dong-hee, an analyst at SK Securities, pointed out that earnings estimates for the coming year are likely to keep rising despite macroeconomic uncertainty. The central driver remains the tight supply of high-bandwidth memory (HBM), which is indispensable for artificial intelligence applications. Long-term supply contracts, meanwhile, give manufacturers a reliable buffer against sharp price swings and help lock in minimum margins.
SK Securities reaffirmed its "Buy" rating on Tuesday and kept its price target at 4 million KRW. For the third quarter of 2026, the brokerage projects operating profit of 79 trillion KRW, roughly 7% above the average market consensus.
Equipment Costs Creep Higher
Beyond demand dynamics, the industry must brace for rising manufacturing costs. Dutch equipment supplier ASML agreed with customers to raise prices for spare parts and consumable components on EUV and DUV lithography systems by 10%. SK Hynix accepted the adjustment after negotiations, with the new terms taking effect in January 2027.
Confidence in the semiconductor cycle had been rattled in recent days by concerns over financing bottlenecks in data-center investment and reports of technological advances by Chinese competitors. That leaves investors asking whether the capital-spending boom among large technology companies will genuinely continue unabated.
HBM4 Timing and the October 28 Print
Media reports suggest that certain shipments of HBM4 back-end equipment, originally slated for the second half of 2026, could slip into 2027. SK Hynix declined to comment on those reports, which did not specify the volumes of equipment involved.
The decisive read on the memory giant's operating health will come with its quarterly results. SK Hynix will publish third-quarter figures on October 28. Market participants are looking to the release for concrete guidance on the company's ability to supply advanced memory modules and on production-line utilization well into 2027.
