SK Hynix used the OCP Global Summit 2026 on Friday to roll out a slate of memory and infrastructure technologies aimed squarely at artificial intelligence workloads. The centerpiece was MARS, a memory-centric rack-scale system, alongside High Bandwidth Flash and a second-generation CXL-3.2 memory product carrying 256 gigabytes of capacity. The unveiling underscores how the South Korean chipmaker is positioning its hardware for compute-heavy server deployments — even as its share price continues to swing on macro headlines.

That same Friday, the stock finished at 1,272,000.00 KRW, up 0.8%. The modest gain came after a bruising stretch: Bloomberg reported that SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics each shed more than 9% on Thursday, with anxiety over Federal Reserve rate moves and financing obstacles in the AI space cited as the triggers. Over a 30-day window, the shares have given back 32%.

Dalian Denial and the Export-License Question

Alongside its product news, SK Hynix moved to knock down a Reuters report that it had tied construction of a new NAND fab in the United States to additional export permits for semiconductor equipment bound for China. The company did not confirm any such linkage and rejected the characterization of its demands.

What SK Hynix did confirm is that it has applied for US export licenses for its Dalian site so it can install additional equipment there. Module B, the company stressed, is being fitted out in coordination with US authorities and under their approval. It also stated plainly that no expansion of production capacity is being pursued at that location.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying SK Hynix?

CXMT Looms Over the Memory Trade

The pushback landed during a volatile stretch for memory names across Asia. Reports that Chinese rival CXMT had made advances in DRAM architecture — specifically its in-house 4F² design for server DDR5 modules, announced roughly a week earlier by CXMT president Cao Kanyu — fueled fears of sharper competition. Saxo market observer Charu Chanana, quoted by Reuters, described the Chinese plans as a clear trigger for the selloff in memory stocks. Sector-wide doubts about the durability of hefty AI investment and profit-taking by institutional players added to the pressure.

Research Points to a Faster, Leaner NAND Path

Technical work continues regardless of the tape. SK Hynix recently published research on 3D-FeNAND for compute-in-memory architectures. Under the test conditions documented, the approach delivered 10- to 20-fold higher throughput and 4,000- to 5,000-fold better energy efficiency than conventional 3D-NAND structures.

Analysts Stay Constructive Into the Quarter

Sentiment among sell-side observers remains upbeat on earnings power. On October 12, Meritz Securities kept its Buy rating unchanged and lifted its price target to 3.2 million won. The brokerage projected operating profit of 80.1 trillion won for the third quarter of 2026. Longer term, the stock still holds a gain of 96% since the start of the year.

Investors will get a clearer read on the underlying business shortly. Per a mandatory filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, SK Hynix has scheduled its third-quarter earnings call for October 28, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. Seoul time. The release should give shareholders a chance to gauge how recent memory pricing and competitive dynamics have actually flowed through to margins.
