SK Hynix is weighing a US stock market debut for its NAND-flash subsidiary Solidigm, with a listing potentially arriving as early as 2027, according to people familiar with the matter. Bloomberg reported that the unit has begun preliminary talks with prospective advisers to explore the mechanics of a US initial public offering, though no final call has been made on timing or deal structure.

The move would mark a significant strategic milestone for the South Korean memory maker, which has spent years reorienting its operations around global demand and the ballooning appetite for data-center storage. A separate listing for Solidigm would give the parent a dedicated vehicle for its NAND ambitions while keeping its core DRAM and high-bandwidth memory business intact.

Venture Arm and AI Roadmap Take Shape

The Solidigm deliberations sit inside a wider American push. On September 18, SK Hynix launched "SK Hynix Ventures," a corporate venture capital arm tasked with forging strategic partnerships and equity stakes across data centers, system software, optical interconnects and AI computing. A day earlier, at the AI Infra Summit, the company rolled out specialized memory and infrastructure technologies including HBF, PIM/AiMX and SALT-KV solutions.

Management used the US platform to lay out its technological vision for artificial intelligence, its global expansion blueprint and efforts to evolve its corporate culture.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying SK Hynix?

Labor Deal Clears Domestic Hurdle

Back home, SK Hynix removed an internal obstacle. In a vote, 57.1% of employees — 8,731 in favor — backed a proposal that lifts the cash portion of profit-sharing bonuses from 40% to 50%, with the stock-based component reduced by a corresponding amount. The agreement stabilizes the domestic production base just as the company sharpens its focus on key international markets.

Nine Rounds of Talks on Honam Cluster

Expansion at home is advancing on a second front. Since July, SK Hynix has held nine rounds of negotiations with officials from the integrated special city of Jeonnam-Gwangju over a large-scale site in the planned Honam semiconductor cluster. The regional administration is pushing for a binding location agreement as soon as October, while the chipmaker is seeking to secure as much production floor space as possible.

Quarterly Expectations Run High

These capacity plans land during a stretch of elevated market expectations for the operating business. Media reports point to analyst consensus of KRW 94.1071 trillion in revenue and KRW 74.1257 trillion in operating profit for the third quarter, with official figures due next month. Investors are treating memory pricing trends, the signing of long-term supply contracts and progress in commercializing the HBM4 memory generation as the key signposts for future earnings power.

Overseas Fab Decisions Still Pending

On international production sites, management is keeping its options open. Responding to reports of a possible semiconductor fab in Japan, SK Hynix stated in a September 18 filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission that no formal decision has been reached. A detailed announcement will follow once the facts are settled, and no later than three months after the original reports. Roughly two weeks earlier, the company also emphasized that talks with Intel over a potential US memory fab have yet to conclude.
