SK Hynix is trying to shift the market’s focus away from short-term anxiety and back toward execution. On one side, the company has pushed out new research on analog compute-in-memory based on 3D FeNAND. On the other, it is still dealing with a bruised share price and a fresh round of speculation over Chinese competition, AI spending and the timing of future capacity investments.

The technology update was presented today. SK Hynix said the 3D FeNAND approach could deliver a 10- to 20-fold increase in throughput versus conventional 3D NAND, while improving energy efficiency by 4,000- to 5,000-fold. That message lands at a moment when investors have been quick to punish any sign of weakness across the memory sector.

The stock’s recent move has been sharp. SK Hynix closed at 1.419.000,00 KRW, down 1,7 percent on the day and 18 percent over the past seven days. Reuters reported that the broader market reaction to concerns around CXMT and worries over global AI spending triggered a single-session drop of more than ten percent in the name.

Management, however, has sought to calm nerves on the capital spending front. Yesterday, the company said its planned investments remain on schedule, after media reports suggested some back-end equipment orders originally slated for the second half of 2026 could be pushed into next year. Those reports did not indicate that mass production of HBM4 would be put at risk.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying SK Hynix?

The timing matters because SK Hynix is in the middle of a major capacity build-out. Last Friday, Chey Tae-won, chairman of the SK Group, told Reuters that the planned semiconductor cluster in southwestern South Korea should be advanced as quickly as conditions allow. No concrete start date was given, but the message reinforced the strategic intent behind the project.

Competition from China is still part of the story. CXMT has said it has made progress on a denser 4F² DRAM architecture and plans to bring related DDR5 server RDIMMs to market by year-end. Citi, though, said the threat looks manageable, arguing that CXMT’s planned 4F² DRAM would have only limited impact on global memory supply because volume production is not expected before 2028 and the company remains several generations behind leading DRAM makers.

SK Hynix is not standing still technologically. Chief Development Officer Ahn Hyun outlined broader development efforts at SEDEX 2026, including 3D-stacked DRAM, high-bandwidth flash, CXL-based memory pooling and initiatives under the Storage-Next label. The company is also reported to be working on comparable memory cell architectures to reinforce its competitive position.

Solidigm adds another layer to the investment case. Bloomberg reported last Thursday that the flash-memory subsidiary has hired Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley as lead banks for a possible US listing. The offering could raise around US$10 billion. SK Hynix said afterward that it is reviewing various strategic options and has not made any concrete plans. The company separately said no decisions have been made on potential capital measures at Solidigm.

That mix of technology progress, strategic asset optionality and management reassurance has not yet steadied the share price. Still, the latest statements suggest SK Hynix wants the market to judge it by its roadmap rather than by the latest round of rumor and reaction.
