Siemens will ask shareholders of both Siemens and Siemens Healthineers to sign off on the separation of its healthcare arm at their respective annual general meetings in February 2027, with the spin-off itself slated for 2027. The healthcare unit is to be renamed Healthineers as part of the carve-out. The announcement came on Thursday, a day when the industrial group's shares were caught in a broad global selloff across AI and semiconductor stocks.

The stock fell 2.9% on the day. Reuters linked the retreat to worries about tighter AI regulation following the US Democrats' victory in the midterm elections, and investors also fretted that the build-out of data centers could slow. The report framed the selling as a drag on the German equity market.

Rail investment and a mixed analyst read

Separately, Siemens opened a new rail infrastructure technology and innovation center in Chippenham, backing the site with a EUR 115 million investment and citing 800 local employees. On the same day, Deutsche Bank Research reaffirmed its "Hold" rating on Siemens and kept its price target at EUR 270. Analyst Gael de-Bray pointed to somewhat mixed signals from competitors' automation results, while highlighting the company's still-strong order momentum in electrification.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Siemens?

Morningstar, for its part, puts fair value at EUR 240 — below the previous day's close of EUR 262.35. The research house assigns the stock a two-star rating, credits Siemens with a wide economic moat and classifies uncertainty as medium. For investors, the question is whether data centers and an expected recovery in automation can add enough momentum to justify the price.

Where the growth is meant to come from

Morningstar places triple-digit revenue growth in the data center business front and center. Demand for AI data centers and electrification stands to benefit Smart Infrastructure in particular — a positive for Siemens provided that strong demand feeds through to the broader business. For fiscal 2027, the firm expects organic revenue growth of roughly 8%, with Smart Infrastructure contributing the largest share. At Digital Industries, it is banking on a cyclical recovery in automation.

That leaves growth resting on two distinct drivers: infrastructure expansion at Smart Infrastructure and a hoped-for economic pickup at Digital Industries. A broader growth base would help the valuation case, should automation genuinely regain traction. At Mobility, Morningstar points to an unusually large single order as the force behind the year-on-year rise in order intake, which means the next set of figures will be read for how the rest of demand develops alongside that one-off effect.

The November 12 test

Siemens publishes its fourth-quarter and preliminary full-year 2026 results on November 12, with release scheduled for 7:00 a.m. CET. Attention will center on the durability of data center growth and on any signal about the trajectory of automation. A more favorable view of the stock would above all require credible growth prospects extending beyond the infrastructure boom. Should Siemens simultaneously confirm the strength of Smart Infrastructure and a recovery at Digital Industries, the operating foundation beneath those high expectations would widen. If the recovery falls short, valuation discipline carries more weight.
