Siemens Healthineers Keeps Buying Back Stock as Rockford PET Plant Comes Online

Siemens Healthineers has wrapped up a $43.6 million build-out of its PET Detector Center at the East Tennessee Molecular Imaging Complex in Rockford, Tennessee, a project that broadens the German medtech group's imaging manufacturing footprint in one of its largest sales markets.
Word of the completed expansion lands alongside a fresh disclosure on the capital-return front. Between August 31 and September 6, the company repurchased 60,000 of its own shares, lifting the cumulative total under the buyback launched June 1 to just under 2.98 million shares.
A Stock Still Searching for a Floor
The equity, however, has yet to reward either effort. Siemens Healthineers currently trades at EUR 38.52, down 14% year to date and 20% over the trailing twelve months based on the closing price a year ago. Measured against the 52-week high of EUR 49.78 set at the end of October, the shares sit 23% below their peak. Over the most recent seven sessions alone, the stock has shed nearly 2%, leaving it at EUR 38.26 in the latest reading and extending a downtrend that has been in place for months. Market capitalization stands at roughly EUR 43.09 billion.
Two Bulls, One Wide Gap
Sell-side opinion has diverged sharply from the tape. Jefferies reaffirmed its "Buy" rating and EUR 50 price target on September 4, and JPMorgan followed on September 9 by restating its "Overweight" call, though it stopped short of attaching a target. A review of coverage by Reuters and dpa echoed that constructive tone. The arithmetic is striking: Jefferies' fair-value estimate sits well above where the stock actually changes hands, leaving investors to weigh whether operational momentum can eventually close the distance. Earlier Jefferies work carrying the same EUR 50 target dates from the spring and may no longer fully reflect current valuation conditions.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Siemens Healthineers?
Building Out Beyond Europe
While the share price languishes, the company has stayed busy on the ground. At Hospital Management Asia 2026 in Bangkok, Siemens Healthineers showcased AI-driven healthcare technologies for the region and hosted the second ASEAN CEO Summit under the banner "Redefining Healthcare: Turning Innovation into Impact." The gathering drew executives, policy officials, private-equity investors and healthcare innovators, according to the company.
The congress also served as the launchpad for a study titled "Strengthening Stroke System Readiness Across ASEAN," which examines gaps in emergency stroke care and the delays patients face in reaching stroke centers across Southeast Asia. Such initiatives signal a strategic tilt toward growth markets outside Europe and North America.
New Leadership in Pakistan
On the personnel side, Evelyn Gunnewig has taken over as Chief Executive Officer of the company's Pakistan subsidiary. The appointment fits a broader push to deepen leadership structures in fast-growing Asian markets.
What to Watch
Management's willingness to keep repurchasing shares suggests confidence in the company's longer-term worth, and two prominent analyst houses remain optimistic with targets comfortably above the current price. Whether the Tennessee investment and the Asian expansion translate into a steadier share price is the question investors will be tracking in the weeks ahead.
