The numbers were emphatic, the analyst response swift, and yet the market's verdict on Siemens Energy remains curiously measured. That tension — between a record-breaking operational performance and the uncertainty of an impending structural decision — now defines the investment case for the German power-equipment group as its supervisory board prepares to convene on August 25.

A Quarter That Reset the Bar

The third-quarter results for fiscal 2026 were nothing short of spectacular. Comparable revenue climbed 18.5 percent to €11.4 billion, while order intake reached €17.9 billion. Net income more than doubled to €1.188 billion from €697 million in the year-earlier period, and profit before special items surged to €1.623 billion, up from just €497 million a year ago. Reuters and dpa-AFX both characterized the quarter as record-setting and comfortably ahead of market expectations.

Demand for gas turbines — propelled by AI data centers in the United States and infrastructure projects across the Middle East — provided the primary tailwind, according to Reuters. Yet the more symbolic milestone may have come from a long-troubled corner of the business: wind subsidiary Gamesa delivered its first quarterly profit since 2022, ending a four-year stretch in which the division had been a persistent drag on group results.

Analysts Move Quickly, Market Stays Cautious

The sell-side response was immediate. JPMorgan lifted its price target to €245 on August 5 with an "Overweight" rating, followed a day later by Deutsche Bank, which raised its target to €210 with a "Buy" call. Jefferies reaffirmed its buy recommendation at €215, and Berenberg updated its estimates while also maintaining a positive stance.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Siemens Energy?

The share price, however, has not fully absorbed that enthusiasm. The stock recently traded at €161.78, down 1.2 percent on the day, though it remains up 5.0 percent on the week and has gained 34 percent since the start of the year. That still leaves it roughly 17 percent below its 52-week high of €195.38, reached in April — a gap that suggests investors are holding something back despite the torrent of positive news.

The Boardroom Question

That caution likely stems from what happens next. Reuters has reported that the supervisory board will use an extraordinary session on August 25 to deliberate on a potential spin-off of the division serving industrial customers — identified in one report as "Transformation of Industry." No decision has been made; only the consultation has been announced.

The unit in question operates in a segment distinct from the high-margin gas turbine and grid infrastructure businesses that drove the recent results. A separation would sharpen the group's focus on its most profitable core, but it would also redraw the corporate structure that investors have come to appreciate during this record stretch. The outcome is genuinely open, and the market appears to be pricing in that uncertainty.

Buybacks Continue in the Background

Meanwhile, the company's share repurchase program — announced in early June via a mandatory disclosure under the Market Abuse Regulation — proceeds on its own track. Between June 4 and August 9, Siemens Energy acquired 5,994,895 of its own shares, including 694,400 in the final reported week alone. The buyback's continuation signals that management retains confidence in the company's valuation even as the structural debate unfolds.

For shareholders, the August 25 board meeting now supersedes the quarterly results as the primary catalyst. The buyback may provide a stabilizing floor in the interim, but the strategic direction of the industrial division — and with it, the group's long-term shape — remains the question that matters most.
