Siemens AG's Stake in Siemens Energy Slips Below 5% as Sector-Wide Pressures Weigh on the Stock

Siemens AG has trimmed its holding in its former subsidiary once again, with the voting stake held through Siemens Beteiligungen Inland GmbH falling from 5.54% to 4.98%. The move pushes the parent below the 5% reporting threshold for the first time — a mandatory disclosure filed last Wednesday, with the threshold breach itself dated a day earlier.
That leaves the legacy position at a fraction of the 35.1% Siemens AG retained when it spun the business off in 2020, underscoring how thoroughly the two companies have drifted apart, both operationally and on the shareholder register.
A Tough Stretch for the Share Price
The disclosure lands in an already difficult stretch for investors. Siemens Energy stock changed hands at EUR 132.30 on Tuesday, down another 1.3% after a heavy decline the previous session. The prior day was especially brutal: shares closed 6.9% lower at EUR 134.00 in one of the year's darker trading sessions.
Several forces have combined to drag the stock down. A downgrade of US rival GE Vernova rippled across the entire energy infrastructure sector, while media reports pointed to mounting skepticism over the AI-driven buildout of data center and power infrastructure — a growth theme that had until recently been a key driver for power technology names. Siemens Energy was cited as a company affected by the GE Vernova cut, not as the trigger for it.
Wind industry headwinds added to the gloom. A survey of works councils signaled weaker order expectations for the wind sector, which media coverage flagged as a further burden. The stock now sits roughly 31% below its 52-week high of EUR 195.38, reached in April.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Siemens Energy?
Analysts Trim Targets but Keep the Faith
The weakness had already prompted more cautious calls before yesterday's slide. Kepler Cheuvreux cut its price target on September 10 from EUR 200 to EUR 175 while reaffirming its buy rating. Jefferies had moved earlier in September, reducing its target from EUR 215 to EUR 210 and maintaining its "Buy" stance. Both houses, despite the adjustments, continue to signal confidence in the company's longer-term story.
That confidence rests partly on the operating numbers. In the third quarter of fiscal 2026, Siemens Energy posted record figures for revenue, margin and order intake, with the Siemens Gamesa wind unit also delivering a positive quarterly result. The current selloff stands in sharp contrast to that solid operating base.
Technicals Flash Oversold
The recent selling has left the stock technically stretched. An RSI of 34.4 points to oversold conditions, while the share price sits 11% below its 50-day moving average of EUR 150.33. Volatility has picked up noticeably, running at 38% on a 30-day basis.
Even so, the longer view remains positive: the stock is up 41% over the past twelve months and 11% year-to-date, suggesting the current soft patch has not fundamentally derailed its upward trajectory.
Operations Hold Up
Away from the market turbulence, the business itself has stayed robust. In the third quarter, reported on August 5, Siemens Energy booked a record order intake of EUR 17.9 billion, while revenue climbed 17% to EUR 11.45 billion. Earnings per share jumped from EUR 0.71 to EUR 1.26.
Management also raised its full-year free cash flow guidance from a range of EUR 4 billion to EUR 5 billion up to around EUR 8 billion, and continues to expect revenue growth of 14% to 16%.
The reduction of Siemens AG's stake is unlikely to be a fundamental drag in itself, but it reinforces the picture of a company steadily loosening ties to its historical roots — organizationally through the planned rebranding to "Omterra" later in the current calendar year, and now on the capital side through the near-total exit of Siemens AG as a shareholder.
For investors, the puzzle remains the gap between resilient operating results and weeks of sustained price pressure. The next quarterly figures on November 11 should provide more clarity.
