Shopify Nears Record High as Wall Street Hikes Targets Ahead of November 3 Earnings
Published on 10/16/2026 at 16:41 | Editorial boerse-global.deA pair of bullish analyst revisions and fresh data pointing to accelerating U.S. online spending have pushed Shopify shares to within a hair of their 52-week peak, with investors now positioning for the company's third-quarter report early next month.
The stock changed hands at EUR 159.88 in European trading, just 1.1% below its 52-week high of EUR 161.66. The advance follows a 2.7% gain on Thursday, when the shares closed at EUR 158.86, driven largely by a wave of price-target increases on Wall Street rather than any single company-specific catalyst.
Two Houses, Two Upgrades
Stifel lifted its target on Shopify from $180 to $210 on Wednesday while keeping a buy rating, citing sustained growth expectations for the platform. Baird followed the same day, raising its target from $160 to $190 and maintaining an Outperform rating after reviewing its own quarterly data and industry checks.
RBC analyst Paul Treiber added his voice on Friday, reaffirming an Outperform rating and nudging his target from $180 to $200. Treiber's case rests on hard sector numbers: U.S. e-commerce revenue climbed 8.2% year over year in August and September, up from 7.4% growth in the April-to-May stretch.
That momentum feeds directly into RBC's gross merchandise volume forecast. The firm now expects Shopify's third-quarter GMV to rise roughly 32.3% to $121.8 billion, well above the consensus estimate of a 30.3% gain to $119.9 billion.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Shopify?
Building on a Strong Second Quarter
The projections extend a brisk run for the platform. In the second quarter of 2026, Shopify grew revenue 34% to $3.58 billion while generating $654 million in free cash flow.
Management is simultaneously widening the company's payments and commerce infrastructure. According to media reports, Shopify plans to roll out its Shop Pay checkout service in India by the first quarter of 2027, with early talks already underway with local payment providers — a move that would open the door to one of the world's fastest-growing digital markets.
Google's Universal Cart, Meta, and the Agentic Push
Partnerships across the tech sector are reinforcing Shopify's role as connective tissue for online retail. Google launched its "Universal Cart" feature inside Search and Gemini in the U.S. on Thursday, pooling products from multiple merchants into a single basket. Beyond retail chains such as Target and Walmart, numerous Shopify merchants are wired directly into the system.
Shopify has also been laying groundwork for autonomous shopping. About a month ago it struck a collaboration with Meta covering purchases made through AI assistants, and alongside industry partners including Stripe it is advancing protocols to govern how personal shopping agents will operate in the future.
Earlier this week the company rolled out shop.md and Shop MCP tools, giving external AI agents access to a catalog exceeding one billion products and the ability to complete orders directly through Shop Pay. Shopify also introduced updates to its POS point-of-sale system in version 11.17.
The Numbers That Matter Next
Shopify has said it will publish third-quarter 2026 financial results before the market opens on November 3, with a conference call scheduled the same day. Whether the rally holds will hinge largely on those figures.
The company has previously estimated its ecosystem powered more than $1.2 trillion in economic activity and supported over 9.6 million jobs in the past year. Its own holiday-season forecast for 2026 projects that 65% of consumers intend to use artificial intelligence for at least one shopping task — a statistic that underscores why so much of the current bull case now rests on Shopify's position at the intersection of commerce and AI.
